Bayelsa poll: Security beef up in Yenagoa

Security has been beefed up in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, and its environs as tension mounts ahead of tomorrow’s governorship election in the state.

Part of the 14,000 policemen deployed in the state, drawn from 10 commands across the country, have started arriving.

They are to be backed by three aerial surveillance helicopters for operational efficiency.

This is beside the nine gunboats to be deployed in the waterways by the Joint Task Force code named Operation Pulo Shield to police the rivers and creeks during the election.

Also, security operatives have been drafted to protect the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, at the Swali suburb of the state capital.

Security operatives were also sighted along the road leading to the commission’s office conducting stop and search on vehicles heading and coming out of the area.
