Abubakar Sadiq, a young man that was arrested by the soldiers after he was linked to one of the photographs of 100 hundred wanted Boko Haram terrorists, that was published in October by the Nigeria Army, had been freed on Friday after weeks of intensive investigation, officials said.
Sadiq, who was believed to have a facial resemblance with the suspect number 28 on the published photos, was released after a joint investigation team of the army later discovered that he was not the same person as the one published by the Directorate of Army Public Relations.
Army’s spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said in a statement that the wrongly arrested suspect had been handed over to his family.
“The Joint Investigation Committee in Maiduguri has cleared Abubakar Sadiq earlier arrested as one of the 100 wanted Boko Haram terrorists”, said Usman.
“It will be recalled that Mr Abubakar Sadiq, a security guard at the residence of Mohammed Daggash in Maiduguri, was arrested based on the assumption that he was suspect number 28 on the wanted Boko Haram terrorists lists.
“However, a thorough investigation carried out, as well as new Boko Haram terrorists video clip acquired and the employment of forensic analysis, the committee conclusively confirmed that it was a case of mistaken identity.
“The erroneously arrested person has since been released to his family. The investigation further showed that Daggash family have nothing to do with the incident or associated with any security breach in Borno State.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
