Appeal Court sacks PDP's Okezie Ikpeazu as Abia governor

An Appeal Court has declared the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Mr Alex Otti, as winner of the April 11 Governorship election in Abia State.
Okezie Ikpeazu

The court in its ruling on Thursday ordered the swearing in of Otti, as governor of Abia State and asked Mr Okezie Ikpeazu to vacate the office.

Mr Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and also had his victory upheld by the Election Tribunal.

The Abia State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had in November dismissed the petition filed by Otti challenging the election of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu as governor of the state.

Otti had sought the nullification of the election on the grounds that it was marred by malpractice and irregularities, but the tribunal held that his petition lacked merit.

Unsatisfied with the judgment Otti, who resigned as the Managing Director of Diamond Bank in 2014 to pursue his political ambition, took his case to the court of appeal.

Ikpeazu has reportedly said he would challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.

  1. Silly and incoherent money-bag rulings. How can you disallow/cancel votes from multiple local government areas (including the governor's LGA) to declare the other person the winner. That doesn't make any sense at all. In other cases, fresh elections have been ordered in areas where irregularities were detected, but not this stupid ruling by a bunch of corrupt individuals. When shall God come to our rescue?

  2. Dis ruling is faulty. An election dat was marred with violence an irregularities should be canceled and fresh election conducted. Even Oti was agitating for a fresh election. On which basis does Oti won d election when d election wasn't free and fair? Dat Appeal court judge should be jailed. Corrupt pple.
