The former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN governor and Emir of Kano, Mohammed Lamido Sanusi has said the embattled former petroleum resources minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke is “lying” over claim that he (Sanusi) came to lobby her for help over his interest in African Development Bank, AfDB presidency but came up with $20bn missing oil fund allegation because he lost out in getting the job.
Sanusi, speaking with Sunday Telegraph, said Diezani, battling breast cancer, was being economical with the truth in her interview with thebossnewspaper.com on his interest and how he lost the opportunity to head the continental financial institution.
Sanusi said it was not a hidden fact he expressed interest in the AfDB job when the position became vacant. He noted that while he expressed lack of interest in a second term as CBN Governor, he wrote a letter to former President Goodluck Jonathan and the Senate and also discussed his AfDB ambition extensively with the then Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke.
“It is not something that is hidden that anybody who is seeking that job must get the support of his country. Knowing fully that I went to the President with my intention and before I made the exposure of the $20bn oil deal, Jonathan clearly indicated his support for me. He even directed Hassan Tukur, his Principal Private Secretary to write to African heads of state. So, what is Diezani saying? One can now see that she is lying,” Emir Sanusi told the newspaper.
He added that it was on record that a week after he exposed the matter, Jonathan wrote a letter withdrawing his nomination as Nigeria’s candidate and replaced him with then Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, who later won the election.
“My suspension came a week after I made the disclosure of the missing monies, precisely on February 20, 2014. As at that time, I was the only candidate from Nigeria gunning for the AfDB job, but you know one cannot have it when he is suspended. My passports were all confiscated. Jonathan in trying to punish me denied me of the job and replaced me with Akin Adesina, who is my personal friend,” he added.
However, Sanusi said contrary to Diezani’s submission, he affirmed that there were issues to be cleared around the subsidy regime under Jonathan.
“The question that remains for Diezani to answer is: Was there $6bn said to have been remitted to NPDC which they denied? As for that denial, who is holding that money? What happened to the inflated N6 per litre kerosene subsidy? Where is the money said to be paid to that effect? All these questions formed the basis upon which I was suspended and denied the AfDB job,” he stated.
On its début edition, The boss online newspaper quoted Diezani as saying Sanusi must have been angry with her because of the way President Jonathan administration treated him.
“In all honesty, he (Sanusi) was being blocked from seeing the President by some of Oga’s people (presidential aides) but it had nothing to do with me. I was the one who even told Oga about the development and Oga said he would meet him in London on one of his trips. Unfortunately my boss fell ill and was rushed to King Edward Hospital and the meeting was aborted,” she said.
“Sanusi and I had been friends. There was no way I would have done anything bad to him. He even came to my house to inform me about his interest in heading the African Development Bank and we discussed for about two hours. I promised to support him and I spoke to Oga about it. We were together on the Reconciliation Committee that looked into the accounts of NNPC. Yes there were gaps but not on the alarming scale being circulated. Markafi (former Governor of Kaduna State) did a thorough job. You know he is a very sound accountant.”
But the monarch reminded the former minister that what he did was neither a personal war nor was it targeted at anybody.
He declared that if anybody feels affected by the revelation, he or she should come forward and clear their name.
“Certainly, there is nothing personal. It is our nation’s money we are talking about. One cannot take away the treasury and expect to go scot-free. He must answer the basic questions. Everyone is aware that I was punished by former President Jonathan for exposing the missing $20bn. The punishment after suspending me from the CBN and taking away my passports was also blocking me from becoming the AfDB President. But Allah in his mercy today has given me something much more better than that,” Sanusi stated.
He expressed sympathy for Diezani’s health condition and wished her quick recovery. He, however, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to get to the bottom of the matter. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Even in a deadly sickness like cancer, Diezieni is still lying. She better repent and give her life to Christ. She should drop vanity and start thinking of life after death. I don't wish her dead, but it's natural for one facing a life threatening condition to be more truthful and remorseful. She's nothing but a common thief. Soon the law will proove it. I know some idiots that don't agree with my opinion, will start cursing their mother and their generation. I send all ur curses back to head. Bloody fools! Bloody biafrans. You will all die very painful deaths. Idiots
ReplyDeleteWell said my sweet baby, don't mind all those gullible haters, just carry dey go. No shaking, I am gaseously, liquidity and solidly behind you .
DeleteWhat you said about dieziani is veey correct. Someone in her condition should be more truthful and remorseful, yet she isn't. She's even trying to ise her illness as a smokescreen for softHearted nigerians. Though I guess buhari would be able to see beyond her deceit.
DeleteEmily you know, I supported you the other time abeg no curse again... let's remain rational...!!
DeleteThis Sanusi is a mad man. $12billion is missing, $20 billion is missing, now its $6billion
ReplyDeleteI think you need to go back to primary school and learn how read and understand passages and writeups.
DeleteWe know who the man man is definitely going by your level of morality and posting above. If you are mentally sound and educated you'll understand the figures
DeleteAnonymous @ 11.30pm. Pls read again. Did you even go to school at all or you are a disgrace to your teachers/lecturets? As you read pay close attention and follow the write up with mental Concentration. Pele!
DeleteI don't think you people can see things clearly. With all what Sanusi is saying, you cannot comprehend? My people. It is a pity for you.
ReplyDeleteEmir Sanusi was been truthful. Cancer Diezieni, patients Jona wife, Jona, Wike and okon jo, must face justice.
ReplyDeleteNa wa o! This figure has been changing for almost 3years now. Yet Diezani is the one lying. Yet a new government cannot convict anyone for it. I don't think that Sanusi will have facts that a credible and no one has been arraigned 6months later. Look at Saraki, in a matter of weeks of becoming senate president against the will of the government, he has a case ongoing so how much more opposition.
ReplyDeleteThe figure is not changing from the whistle blower but from the suspects. Emir is only breaking down the components of total sum. Learn to comprehend better when you read or following an ongoing issue. That nobody has been charged formally shows that this government want to be sure & ready with all evidences before doing anything. It's the same you people that will start crying foul. And don't you think these oles/barawos would be trying to destroy evidence, the government needs puncture proof evidence. We are dealing with hardcore liars, thieves, cruel, wicked, & most self-serving, self-centered rogues. They will go to any length to cover their tracks. Money is their god. Wisdom is principal if we want to get anything back from them WE WANT OUR MONEY NOT necessarily a jail term in this instance.
DeleteRead what he said $6m among others. Sanusi is spot on no evil feeling but account for our missing funds
ReplyDeleteThis Emilia Anaedo is Insane. You have concluded she is corrupt without waiting for court to declare her a Thief while Sanusi, Amaechi and Fashola are not THIEVES. I wonder the kind of Family you come from and the kind of man you are married to if at all you are married. Nonsense!!!
ReplyDeleteStop your big smelling stinking mouth . Big for nothing gullible fool like you. Never you insult my baby (Emilia Anaedo) again. I will personally hunt you down if you don't desist from making unguided utterances
DeleteAll in all between Sanusi and Deziani who is the devil who is the satan. Both are of the same coin. People who contributed to make Nigeria lie postrate. time will catch up with them.JAY 2, ABUJA.
ReplyDeleteOK. Let us agree that this amount of money is missing from the treasury but GEJ is no longer on the helms of affair what is delaying the present administration from the discovery and prosecution. Going by the way the emir is talking, I believe he has a concrete evidence, why can't he put the evidence forward so that Diezani could be indicted. If there is no evidence, the emir should keep shut. Shikinah! Is the missing money not traceable?
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmmmm ! Nigeria. We need to love each other as we love ourselves if we truly love ourselves. I said if we truly love ourselves. If we love each other, we shall not be stealing from each other no matter what the amount or figure it is. Even if it is 6 Billion, that is much to make someone have a heart attack talk more of 20 Billion. Either it is less or more, a thief is a thief any day, any time, any second, PERIOD. I am not trying to say that she is guilty or not but we can't say that the whistle blower is wrong or lying even if when evidence is not yet out for an arrest. It may be that the people being accused did a better and neater job as a thief than the other ones we caught easily. We need time and God's leading to bring these things to light. All I know is that God's love is so powerful that that love will not allow you to easily steal any amount because that amount you are stealing could be used to help someone else in a needy area. Jonah just allowed every one to do what they wanted or may be he just used them to carry out what his agenda was. I don't know but I am sure he could have done a better job than what he did. I heard that he went on pilgrimage in Israel. Is that true? And came back still behaving the same way? Oh God we need your MERCY. Pastor Oritsejafor accompanied him too, right? WOW ! What a shame to these HUMANLY Priesthood system. What a shame to us Pastors. Well, Nigeria, I declare on you by faith that you shall rise up again IJN if the coming of the Lord is not NOW. Again, it's me ...... RADEO. 11212015 @ 8:53 pm.
