PR expert faults Buhari’s refusal to shake hand with female ministers

The Chief Executive Officer, NECCI Limited, a public relations firm, Mrs. Nkechi Ali-Balogun, has frowned at President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to shake hands with his female ministers after their swearing-in.

She said: “It is unethical in public relations because it portrayed the female ministers as inferior in eyes of the general public.

“If Hillary Clinton (US presidential hopeful and former Secretary of State) is to visit Nigeria today, will our President refuse to shake hands with her in the name of religion?

“ If you are working for the President, you must be able to advise him in such a way that he will know that your advice is due to the office you holding which you must do with boldness in such a way that the President will earn the respect of the public.

“An expert in public relations should have told him that it is unethical even before the congratulatory hand shake which he gave to the male ministers. A public relations person must not be scared to tell him what will boost the President image and acceptability to the public”.

  6. Mrs. Nkechi Ali-Balogun should be considered for her own way of life. There is no where in our Constitution that the must shake hand with female. Using the adjective "unethical" here is can be considered a misused to others people.

What can Mrs. Ali-Balogun give as important in shaking hands with women? She must remember that there is "principle" which is the right of every human-being.

  8. The Yoruba culture forbids women seeing an Ooni's corps, yet nurses diapered him in a London hospital. Let us hope Hiliary Clinton becomes the next US president and Buhari goes cap in hand as usual for aid. Time will tell. Three years more.

  9. What is d big deal in Mr. President not shaking women ministers. Must it always be as the whites present it. Can't we have our own way of doing things. If it's the westerners (men) that don't shake women, then that would be our basis for judgement. We better stop all these hypocrisies and try to be reasonable at least for once.

  10. I didnt vote Buhari to come and be shaking hand with women or not. I voted him to bring positive reform to Nigeria in all ramification. If he forbids shaking hand with women, that is his own life and it is not a crime. If Nkechi wish to shake hand with a President at all cost, let her visit me and i wont mind shaking hand with her. Infact the handshake can pass elbow. But allow Buhari to live his life as he wish. I have attempted to shake hand with some women in the past and was turned down cos they forbid it for religious reason and its ok by me. If Hillary becomes US President tomorrow and she has now known that Buhari doesnt shake hand with women, she will not offer it.

  11. How many women are in this administration that we can not give them the same honour due to them.
Please someone should tell the Nigeria president that 'change does not include gender discrimination'.
