Picture Of The Day: Governor Ambode personally arrests one-way driver

Sometimes you need to lead by example and get the work done yourself...

That was what the Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode did yesterday, when he personally arrested a commercial bus driver for driving against traffic in Ejigbo, Lagos.

  3. It shows the level of lawlessness in Nigeria. Though the driver was wrong, a governor does not have the legal authority to personally arrest anyone. people need to focus of the main issue. This is distraction. What will cause someone to drive one way if traffic is moving on his side of the road?

  5. Nigeria is a lawless society, that's the bottom line. In a lawful society the governor would not have to do this because citizens obey traffic laws without being forced to do so. But not in Nigeria where lawlessness abounds.

  6. As a Citizen of Nigeria, the Governor has a right to conduct a Citizen arrest. Before you claim lawlessness, perhaps you should educate yourself on the laws of this Land.

  8. The governor has the fundamental duty of ensuring security, law and orderliness within his State. He certainly can stop an obvious offender who is then arrested by LASTMA or Police on his entourage or convoy. I am sure you don't expect him to see such and ignore. That will be impunity!

  9. It's embrassing enough to be arrested by police; it's so so embrassing to be arrested by a governor!

  12. WOW ! Again. Are you kidding me? The Governor had to make an arrest? What kind of arrest should that be called? Lawful, unlawful, or what? Is the Governor now a police man? I don't even know what to say. Is he making a citizen's arrest, if there is anything like that? Having to abandorn all the numerous things (Problems) he could be resolving to arresting drivers? Good job Governor, active Governor indeed. Look, I will want to advice you not to waste your precious time on going about arresting people, except if your time is not precious or if you don't have a better thing to do, then more grease to your elbows but if your time is precious, you better get down and get dirty, roll up your sleeves and get to work because arresting drivers is not going to speak for you at the polls in about four years time or so. No matter how may bad drivers you arrest, that will not improve your resume a bit and if people like me will have to judge your performance in office in four years time, I will fail you flatly because, as far as I am concerned, arresting drivers is a cap out and I am sorry to say that. But you can arrest those kind of lawless drivers indirectly by studying what is the cause of their offense and resolving it, so they will have no excuse breaking such laws again, and that definitely will count as a plus towards your re-election and earn you votes of people like me. The very reason we have the LASTMA or whatever they are called, the Police force, and the Traffic police, even though we may say that they are corrupt but use them, make use of them instead of you doing the job yourself. In the cause of arresting someone, what would you do if he or she becomes rude to you? Beat him or her up just like the police or LASTMA will do? Or have thugs to beat them up? Don't put yourself in temptation of such sir, it's not worth it. Please, kindly earn yourself the respect of a good leadership and get off the street trying to play the game of a police man. You are not trained for such a situation and even if you are trained to handle it, that is not what we voted for you to do sir. Kindly do us a big favor by resolving the problems of our Lagos state traffic in your comfortable office. You are employed for mental problem solving and not physical sir. You may decide to secretly go out and see things for yourself and know how the boys are doing on their jobs but not to take it over from them my Honorable Governor Ambode. God bless you and we are praying for you for a lot of wisdom to lead us into the green pasture better than those before you because, we always want those that take over from us to be better than us IJN. This is my thought and I may be wrong but you may pray about it and if the Lord leads you differently, then ignore my advice and follow the Lord's because when I am always wrong, HE is always right and I give Him that. We love you Governor and be blessed in HIS wisdom IJN. Please forgive me for my mistakes if there are any. As always, again. RADEO 11102015 @ 3:04 am.

  13. @Home Roswell 4.36am. Last I heard, the Governor is the chief Security Officer of his State. If the chief Security Officer does not have the power of arrest, who then will have? Is it the police private?

  14. @home roswell, thank you for seeing this the way I expect a right thinking citizen to see it. It is not the governor's job to arrest traffic offenders. How many traffic offenders can the governor personally arrest? If I were in the Governor's shoes, I would be asking questions of the heads of the agencies charged with ensuring traffic rules are obeyed, even sack someone if found wanting. That is called top-down approach. Sack the head of LASTMA and replace him with someone else with a stern warning that he too will go if he doesn't perform.
