Senators Ahmed Lawan and George Akume, who were favoured by the All Progressives Congress to emerge as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively at the May 9 inauguration of the Senate walked out of plenary in protest on Wednesday.
The senators, who walked out in company with some of their colleagues, were protesting the decision of Senate President Bukola Saraki to allow his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu to preside over plenary in his absence.
Ekweremadu presided over the Wednesday sitting because Saraki was at the Presidential Villa to attend the swearing-in of new ministers by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Lawan and three others later held a brief discussion before they left to their various offices in the new senate wing.
The plenary was the first that Ekweremadu will preside over since the inauguration of the Eighth Senate. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

When will this madness end?
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with Ike Ekweremadu doing his job as deputy. That is his job, to act on behalf of Senate President.
ReplyDeleteI don't see anything wrong with Ekweremadu presiding over the plenary. I don't know why some senators always make trouble out of nothing. Presiding over doesn't make Ekweremadu Senate president.
ReplyDeleteTHIS SHOWS HOW PETTY AND SMALL MINDED SOME OF THESE SO-CALLED SENATORS CAN BE. THE OTHER TIME WE WERE BERATING THE SENATE THAT EACH TIME SARAKI GOES TO THE CCT, THE SENATE IS SHUT DOWN, NOT KNOWING THAT THIS WAS THE REASON. THOSE LOOSERS SHOULD GROW UP. LAWAN AND AKUME SHOULD STOP THIS PETTY BEHAVIOUR AND ACCEPT DIVINE DEFEAT. Jay 2, Abuja.
ReplyDeleteTheir problem is not Ekweremadu presiding over the plenary session, they are still interested in Saraki and Ekweremadu job. What a madness?
ReplyDeleteNigeria Senators must shun childishness in their behaviour.
