I've not committed any offense, they want to persecute me because i supported Jonathan - Orubebe cries out

Former Niger Delta Minister, Elder Godsday Orubebe, raised the alarm Sunday that he was being persecuted for his support and closeness to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Orubebe, who is being charged to the Code of Conduct Tribunal, told a press conference in Abuja on Sunday that he had not committed any offense to warrant being vilified by the present administration.

The former minister also declared that he had never demanded and collected a bribe throughout his six-year sojourn as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said he was convinced that the CCT was out to frame him given the way it had already begun his ‘trial’ in the media when he had only been served with the summons to appear before the court on November 9, 2015.

He said: “I was served with Code of Conduct Tribunal summons on Friday last week and the paper, which I personally signed and collected stated that I was expected to appear before them on November the ninth.

“I was taken aback by the news that I had already been arraigned. This tells me that it is an issue of witch hunt which is not good for this country. It is not good to take me to the public court before being tried.

“The issues contained in the summons are that I took N50 million bribe from one of the contractors who handled a project for the ministry of Niger Delta and another N20 million from the same contractor as well as not declaring my plots of land in Asokoro and Kyame districts of Abuja. I find these charges very empty and frivolous.

  4. Mr Orubebe, this is an opportunity for you to really shine and perhaps even be the next in line to be the Pope. Since these charges are empty, the man who claimed to have given you N70m bribe would be thoroughly ashamed when he cannot prove it. And those properties at Abuja they claimed you owned but never declared? It would be clear to all that the properties do not even exist. You would come out so clean that all the Cardinals would note you as a highly qualified candidate to be the next Pope. No, you would not even need to be a Cardinal before becoming the Pope.

    2. So, the man who said he gave N70m bribe to Orubebe is also an agent of APC? Was he an agent of APC when he allegedly gave the money (under PDP government)? The Nigerian law requires the accuser to prove that he actually gave Orubebe that money. So, don't worry. Orubebe will come out victorious and shining clean. That is why, as someone said in this forum, he may even clinch the nomination to be the next Pope!

  10. Oh ye Aggressive Orubebe, please don't mind those mumu people charging you with laughable and unsubstantiatable lies. Go shame them in court my brother. They will come begging you because you will turn round to nail them with your counter claim on defamation of character. I pity for Nigeria after your appearance in court. All the budget this government will ever make in 4 years will not be enough to pay you for damages. I am behind you, my bro...
