I won't stop telling everyone how corrupt Jonathan's government was - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to continue telling Nigerians how the immediate past administration allegedly plundered the economy, irrespective of anyone’s feelings.

Responding to allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that he was demarketing the country and dissuading foreign investments, the President vowed that the relentless tackles of the opposition party would not in any way dissuade him from his obligations to the citizenry and the international community.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh had, yesterday, attacked the President’s claim in India that Nigeria was broke, saying that such claims at international fora tended to worsen the country’s investment climate.

Metuh had, in his statement, alleged that such claims by the President were essentially because of his lack of a viable economic plan.

Responding to PDP yesterday, presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said that Metuh’s attempts to distract the President from focusing on his job would fail, maintaining that he was a broken record.

The statement read in part: “Our attention has been drawn to the latest statement by the PDP spokesman, Olisa Metuh, alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari is ‘demarketing Nigeria’.

“We restate for the umpteenth time to Mr. Metuh and his ilk that their attempts to distract President Buhari from the job he has been elected to do will fail.

“President Buhari will remain true to the virtues of honesty, integrity, sincerity, incorruptibility and plain-speaking, which endeared him to Nigerians and made them prefer his leadership to that of a lying and deceptive PDP administration.

“The President will not, in the guise of ‘marketing’ the country, refrain from telling Nigerians and the world, the emerging truths about the abject state in which years of plundering by a PDP leadership has left the Nigerian treasury and economy.

“President Buhari will not in the name of ‘marketing’ or ‘attracting’ investors, follow in the footsteps of the ousted PDP administration and its discredited officials, who shamelessly lied to Nigerians and the world about the buoyancy and vibrancy of an economy they had bled dry for personal gain, when it was very obvious to the discerning, that the Nigerian economy was headed for serious trouble.”

What PDP said earlier

Earlier in his statement, Metuh had said: “Mr. President’s recent announcement to the world that the nation, with its abundant human and natural resources, is broke and cannot pay cabinet ministers, not only sends a discouraging signal to the domestic and international business community, but also exposes the ineptitude of the present administration to meaningfully and sincerely exert itself and work with industrious and innovative investors to create and manage wealth.

“We ask how can any reasonable investor still have the confidence to invest in a country where the President himself continues to alert that his country reeks of corrupt people and that the government is broke to the extent it cannot pay cabinet ministers?

“Is the President not directly advising investors against having confidence in Nigeria and the system, and that they risk not being paid for jobs awarded by government at any level?

“More worrisome is the fact that Mr. President makes his damaging comments in international fora with potential investors in attendance. It reminds one of the proverbial father who, in the presence of potential suitors, often portrays his daughters as wayward and yet constantly complain of their inability to find husbands.”

  1. We have heard a lot of GEJ this and GEJ that, why not start delivering all the bogus election campaign promises or do you want to use the past administration as an excuse of not fulfilling your election promises ??? You have done nothing since you assume office, only vowing to do one thing or the other, witch hunting the opposition, fighting corruption on media and appointing the same criminal in your government. You think you can deceive Nigerians for long ? You better start working oo and forget this your everyday excuse of past administration

    1. That's what you think since you people can't see beyond your nose. You can't see the depth of how far corruption has eaten deep into the Nigerian system. You always prefer lie to honesty, deception to the truth. No magic can make things right over night & remember, patience is a virtue. Give the Buhari leadership the fair chance.

    2. My brother you have not make any sense. Yes the last administration is corrupt. I completely agree with you and the president but what has he done about it. Instead of keeping on telling Nigerians how corrupt GEJ administration is, identify the corrupt elements in the last administration, indict them and get the loots back to Nigeria. Before the election, apc propagated that 20 billion us dollars was taken away from the national treasury and up till this time a dollar is yet to be recovered. the people who are being accused are yet to be brought to book. That shows a level of levity on the part of the government.

  4. Its a shame we have a president who was only hungry to regain the power he lost while he was a dictator there is no visible plan for change in this country same old story same old excuses.my advice to Nigerians is to effect the change within there various environments industries and endeavours so it will become a generalized change that will be visible not this election campaign noise of the APC. If there are no visible investments policies there will be no investors you cant keep making ridiculous statements about your people whether past Government or not your focus should be making and creating operating systems that will inturn generate automated systems. When you set up an operating system things just work on there own not because of Body language but because the system itself is effective.

  8. Although I do not always agree with Metuh, in this case, I strongly assert that Metuh is absolutely right! The President, by making those disparaging comments, he has shown to Nigerians and the entire world, a gross level of economy illiteracy and lack of ingenuity. I do not think Nigeria needs this kinda President in 21st Century.

  9. President Buhari, please answer this question logically and convincingly and Nigerians will be satisfied to continue supporting this line of action: Please tell us in details how "telling everyone how corrupt Jonathan's government was" will put food on our table, clothes on our back, and roof over our head? If Buhari can't answer this question, would anyone out there who fully understands his policy & knows where he is heading to with his government please help to offer the answer to this question so that the common man in the streets of Nigeria, that is yearning for the end of his suffering since the past 16 years of PDP rule, to understand 'how Buhari's telling everyone how corrupt Jonathan's government was' will bring them relief in the short, medium, long run? Anyone?......Please!!

  10. Thank God we now have a truthful President in Nigeria. Foreign investors, for their due diligence, know Nigeria very well. Therefore, they are able to see the difference between truth and lies.

While GEJ celebrated lies, Buhari is not ready to accept it. Lies is corruption and does not bring permanent progress to anybody or country.

Nigerians must quit lies for permanent progress to come.

  11. when a person that is pounding yam is tired, he start pursuing goat. Buhari, thought he is still campaigning, all these corruption cases we ve heard even during campaign. Till now we are still hearing it in verbatim, When are you going to deliver your promises to those that you convinced to vote for you that your are the MESSIAH deliver this country. Note: TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. Six months is already away from your tenure.

  12. The adage says that it is easy to destroy than to build. I am sure those asking for miracle in less than six month of this administration will frizzle out of the forum when the effect of the systematic cleansing of bad governance started yielding result. Please exercise patience.

  13. For 5 months now it is assumed that all the monies that would have been stolen in all sectors of the country including NNPC sales of crude and revenues are intact for this government to use. 2015 budget has been dumped. No projects spendings, only recurrent expenditures. Where are all the monies. The past administration lied but salaries were paid at the federal level, investors were making profits, companies could retain their staff unlike now that people are loosing their jobs because of the present state of the economy. So what are we saying. Stop the leakages and let Nigerians feel the impact of monies recovered. MDAs use to collect their salaries as from 24th but now salaries are not paid till 1st week of the following month. Body language of the president is making institutions to sit up which should translate to the economy going up because we assume that theft has been reduced. So what are we saying.

  15. May God open the eyes of many blind Nigerians who trust in lies and decite. Those angry that the crumbs they eat from their corrupt masters tables are no longer there. Shame on those who think that six months is enough to turn around 16years of destruction. We thank God for the change we have got nothing can change it. If you don't like it sorry for you. Despite the poor revenue from oil today we have hope. One can imagine what would have become of Nigeria today if God has not given us change with the low revenue. No amount of evil talk can derail our President. Learn from the resilience he put up during campaign so just waste your time you blind
