The Save Nigeria Group, SNG, Monday, vowed to mobilise Nigerians for “a torrential protest march”, should President Muhammadu Buhari, fail to sack the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, Justice Danladi Umar, within the next 72 hours.
The group, at a press conference it held in Abuja yesterday, said it was satisfied that Justice Umar has questions to answer over allegation that he demanded N10million bribe to quash criminal case involving a retired Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Rasheed A. Taiwo.
SNG, in a statement that was signed by its National Coordinator, Barrister Benedict Ezeagu, asked President Buhari to without further delay, liaise with the leadership of the National Assembly to effect the formal removal of Umar as CCT chairman, in accordance with the constitutional provisions.
According to the group, “This will no doubt be a litmus test of President Buhari’s avowed anti-corruption stance”, saying “the integrity of our judicial process and criminal justice system cannot be mortgaged on the whims and caprices of a few mischievous political interest”.
