The Federal Government is currently reaching out to some leaders of thought in the South-East to intervene in the growing pro-Biafra protests in that part of the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari has also received the assurances of state governors in the geopolitical zone that the issue has being adequately addressed.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said this in an exclusive interview with our correspondent on Saturday.
Adesina was responding to a question on whether the President was considering inviting leaders of the protesters for talks or will use South-East governors and other leaders of thought to reach out to them.
The presidential spokesman said the President was concerned about all parts of the country and would always follow due process and the rule of law in tackling any issue.
He said the protests formed part of the agenda of the last Council of State meeting.
He said during discussion on the matter, a governor from the region assured council members that the issue was being handled.
Adesina said, “Government is in communication with credible leaders of the South-East on the Biafra issue.
“At the last Council of State meeting, one of the governors from the region assured council members that the issue was being looked into.
“The leaders of thought are working already. The President is concerned about every part of the country, but he will always respect due process and rule of law.”

Shameless people
ReplyDeleteBIAFRA OR NOTHING. NO NEGOTIATION
ReplyDeleteAnd these Igbo leaders are happy with the unlawful detention of Kanu against the protest by millions of igbo people across the whole world? Then they are not Igbo leaders but puppets, errand boys, political prostitutes and saboteurs who cannot face the people without renting a crowd. Like Ohaneze that had a meeting and avoided the core reason for the protests. The unlawful detention of Kanu against the orders of the court. Is one Nigeria by force? Buhari has always shown his hatred for Igbo so why not let them go. I pray one day you find that cursed oil in Daura and then you will surely leave us alone. .
ReplyDeleteWHO ARE THESE SO-CALLED IGBO LEADERS? THEY SHOULD HIDE THEIR HEADS IN SHAME TO BE AT THAT MEETING WITHOUT RAISING THE ISSUE OF NNAMDI KANU'S ILLEGAL DETENTION.THE GOVERNORS ARE VERY SELFISH, COWARDS, LAME AND SHORT OF IDEAS. MERE POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS ARE NOTHING TO THE IGBOS. IGBOS NEED TO BE RECOGNISED AS PART OF NIGERIA, NOT JUST MERE NAME CALLING AND MUD-SLINGING. THE ONLY ZONE WITH JUST FIVE STATES. THE ONLY ZONE WITHOUT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THE ONLY ZONE WITHOUT GOOD ROADS. Haaabaaaa. THOUGH I ADMIRE AND FOLLOWED BUHARI TO THE BATTLE FIELD IN THE LAST ELECTION, DEEP INSIDE ME I KNOW HE IS A TYPICAL MUSLIM FULANI OF THE OLD DESTRUCTIVE ORDER, THOSE WHO FOUGHT THE CIVIL WAR TO DESTROY THE IGBOS. BUT SHOULDN'T HEAL THE WOUNDS IF THE IGBO DEFEAT IS NOT REGULARLY AND CONSISTENTLY SMEARED ON THEIR FACES. JAY 2, Abuja.
ReplyDeleteDont be deceived Ibos have no leader. Those are political jobbers like OKOROAWUSA. They can only deceive themselves. BIAFRA MUST BE ACHIEVED.
ReplyDeleteTHE AGITATION FOR BIAFRA, THIS TIME AROUND, SHOULD BE HANDLED WITH CARE. UNDOUBTEDLY, THE AREA MAPPED OUT AS BIAFRA LEGALLY IS STILL PART OF NIGERIA. TO RELEASE THAT PART TO BIAFRA, IT HAS TO BE CONSTITUTIONALLY PURSUED NOT THROUGH OPEN UNREST AND PROTESTS BUT THROUGH DIALOGUE. I HAVE THE BELIEF THAT PMB IS A LISTENING PRESIDENT AND SENSITIVE ISSUE LIKE THIS MUST BE PURSUED LOGICALLY AND CONSTITUTIONALLY.
