Benin Republic invades Nigerian territory, hoists flag of annexation in 16 villages

The neighbouring Benin Republic has invaded sixteen villages in Okuta, the border town in Baruten local government area of Kwara state, thereby causing serious fear and palpable tension in the affected communities.

‎In their shrewd determination to annex the Nigerian villages, it was gathered that authorities of Benin Republic have gone ahead to construct Gerdarmes Office(Police station) in the affected Nigerian communities and also hoist the country flag at the affected Nigeria villages.

Further checks revealed that the development negated the boundary delimitation of 1914 between Britain and France which the two countries had respected.

The affected Nigeria villages invaded by the Benin Republic include‎ Ogomne, Bwin, Gandasunon, Kpuru and Woru Wuren Kparu.

Others are Ajuba,1, Ajuba 2, Saka Yeruman Kparu,Monta, Dotin Kparu,Halidun Kparu, Yakubun Kparu, Sonsi,Gunosani, Alhaji Kparu,Yodo Mankparu and Simen Kparu.

The Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Idris Serio Abubakar, who confirmed the development in an interview with journalists, said the development also led the Okuta Emirate Council to order the people of Yakparu axis to dismantle the Beninoise flag hoisted in the villages, adding that the flag was currently in the custody of the emirate council in the town.

The monarch appealed to Kwara and Federal Governments to come to the aid of the people of Okuta villages as residents now lived in fear of possible attack.

He said Nigerian teachers, dispensary workers and Immigration officials in Ogomue had been sent packing from the Nigerian villages by Benin Republic officials.

He also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rise to the situation before the Benin Republic authorities invade all Nigerian communities in Baruten Local Government Council of the state.

The emir recalled that during the government of President Ibrahim Babangida, the gendarmes attempted their encroachment move, claimed ownership of Ogomue, a village under Boriya of Okuta district in Baruten local government council of the state.

He noted that the move led the then military governor of Kwara State, Lt. Col. Ahmed Abdullahi, and the then Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Ilorin, Col. Ojokojo, to visit the area.

He also said a visit during the period under review prompted the hoisting of Nigerian flag at Ogomue, with the subsequent construction of a primary school, a dispensary and Immigration post by the Nigerian authorities to give the villagers a sense of belonging.

He noted that since then, the Gerdarmes had fled the area until recently when they sent Nigerian government workers in the area parking before establishing their presence through the illegal removal of the Nigerian flag and hoisting of Benin flag there as well as as construction of Gerdarmes office.

In reaction to the issue, The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ajayi Okasanmi said “the State Police Command has not been officially informed of the invasion by the Benin Republic. But now that we have been informed, the Command will act immediately and contact the nearest police station to the communities to get feedback. We will then decide what to do next”.

  6. Nigerin police claimed to have not been informed officially, is there no police station around all this villages mentioned, the more they delay the matter the more the internation body will feel that Nigeria is not interested in those village or they does not really belong to us, police should have been the first to raise the alarm when they(police) see that people are been chased out of their village or do they want Buhari to come and inform them? Nigeria is in trouble, let our soldier not be destracted, boko haram at the north, Biafara at the south, Benin republic is pushing for war, next year I don't know it could be the yoruba will start thiers. God helps us in this country, this is he time we should pray for our government, for wisdom and knowladge so that all these problem will be overcomed peacefully. God bless Naija!

The south south have no history with the so-called biafra, and will never be.
Here is a pointer for you: recall all the Senators and House Members for a start, and test how truely united the Ibos are for biafra.
Protest does not make a nation, it is logical thinking!

  9. Possibly there are international western powers behind all these.
Stay calm and watch as every thing is revealed gradually.
The mission is to destabilize Africa because Africa is a threat and potential world power in a few years to come.

  10. President Buhari should better reorder his priority and understand what it takes to be a civilian president rather than relying on the advice of sycophants . The unfortunate thing is that we don't have the army to fight this since the one we have are afraid of fighting the Boko Haram is it the Gendarmes they can face

IF IT CONCERNS A PEACEFUL PROTEST IN THE SOUTH EAST AND SOUTH SOUTH,THEY WILL QUICKLY READ OUT THE DECREE THAT PERMIT THEM TO GO AND KILL THEM AS TO PROTECT THE SO CALLED NIGERIA ONENESS.NOW IS THE TIME FOR THEM TO DEFEND OUR TERRITORY ,WE ARE NOT HEARING ANYTHING FROM THE ARMY.NIGERIAN ARMY IS ONLY GOOD IN KILLING AND HARASSING FELLOW NIGERIAN CIVILIANS.IT IS A SHAME THAT BENIN REPUBLIC WILL TAKE SOME TERRITORIES FROM NIGERIA.NIGERIA ARMY SHOULD BETTER LEARN FROM ARMY FROM CIVILIZED NATIONS.

  12. It's either our so called leaders are shying away from what they are supposed to do or they don't knw what to do. In either case they should act fast or Nigeria will only be heard about in the pages of African history book

  14. WOW ! So there is this much hatred for this country called Nigeria? I have never felt this much hatred for Nigeria but it is coming up bits and pieces. Why do people hate Nigeria this much? If there's this much hatred for this Nigeria, then how do we want it to progress? Could this have always been the cause of all of our problems? We have been hiding under false amalgamation, false marriage, false this and false that but we have never thought about "What if ALL these false this and false that is actually the plan of God for our advancement, developments, progress, and establishment?" Have we ever thought about it? Have we ever prayed to see how we could take the advantage of all these false this and false that to better this great nation called Nigeria? Yes, there might have been false this and false that in the real sense but what do we do now, now that there is false this and false that? This country will go no where with the continuity of false this and false that. We have been together for so long a time that we shouldn't be talking about somethings we are still talking about today. Something is wrong and I believe what is wrong is not the false this and false that but WE NIGERIANS. Something is wrong with us all, we are in no way showing the attributes of God. If we can all get together as Nigerians, we shall accomplish what we thing is impossible. If I should say this, "I don't think anyone should be waiting for the split or destruction of Nigeria" but my idea can't be forced on anyone, it should be made to be seen by everyone. As long as it is God's will that Nigeria be one country indivisible, it shall and that is when I think Nigeria will grow and be best. Forgive me if my idea is different from yours and don't go hateful for that, just speaking out my thoughts. I am blessed by God's grace IJN. Again, it's me ..... RADEO 11212015 @ 9:21 pm.

  15. You are correct. This is an attempt to destroy Nigeria. Finally when Nigeria has become the number one economy in Africa and what was meant to ruin us (this so-called false amalgamation) is becoming our strength and we are moving forward, they want to destabilize it and rip it apart to become smaller units that are easier to consume. To those who are pushing for annexation, please do not allow your local leaders and the western or international powers and whatever reason or motivation they are presenting to you to do this cause you to miss the big picture. If Nigeria is divided, do not think that you yourself or your people will escape. Our unity with over two hundred ethnicities with all of its talented and intelligent people is a strength and observable from the outside. Now is the time to come together seriously and seek for the equality of the ethnicities and not the destruction of the unity, just at the brink of actualization of all that we have worked for for 55 years. And President Muhammadu Buhari, with all due respect sir, if your presidency was put in place to aid in dividing Nigeria (just when we thought that your coming and the peaceful transition to your administration was the beginning of a stronger Nigeria and of Africa) please do not think that you or your people will escape. This is the time for us to work towards a united Nigeria more than ever. Unity is in the motto of our nation. Please let us see the value in the unity of our peoples and of Africa. We are a great people. Let us see the big picture. Let us be wiser than our enemies.
