With Biafra it is finished,- Gowon

Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has dismissed threat of Nigeria’s unity as he also said that with Biafra it is finished and

General Yakubu Gowon made this statement recently in reaction to the resent protests by some youths.
He said that Nigerians have put behind them the bad memories of the 1967 civil war, and that those behind these protests on Biafra don’t have an inkling what the Biafra war cost Nigerians.

The elder statesman speaking in Lafia, the Nasarwa State capital shortly after a malaria eradication campaign questioned that ‘do they want us to go to another war? but hoped and I prayed to God that such should not happen.’

He went further to say that those involved in this campaign were being driven by just a few people and that majority of the Igbo people do not share the same view.

‘It is only them, the few, that are there but the majority of the Igbo people that I know are not with them’

Acceding to the fact that the protesters have the right to express their feelings he stated “with Biafra it is finished”.

He said these people ‘let them say their views, yes it democracy but let s make sure they can express their wishes and desires but let them remember with Biafra it is finished. it is not a threat’

He further said that keeping Nigeria one was behind all that he did and not for hatred for the Igbo as that was what Odumegwu Ojukwu also stood for.

All I did is not a result of hatred against the Igbos but on the principle of keeping Nigeria one and this is all we are trying to do and that was why at the end of the war in other to see that there is no heard feeling we used the term no victor no vanquished

I have said if there is anything of this sort anywhere in any part of the country just like the problem of Boko Haram we should deal with it, Nigeria should deal with it in matured way .

  2. This is a very big mistake Nigerians are making, the insinuation that the majority of the Igbos are not in support is just in self denial of the true reflection of the views of ndi Igbo. I strongly advise that a survey be conducted then u will be very shocked at the result you will get.

  3. Over 90% of ndi Igbo are in support of secession.

I urging every born bloodily biafarans from south south to south east to go and watch animal farm by George Orwell from YouTube. The movie is like a journey leads between odemegwu ojukwu and director nnamdi Kanu. And it was a similar case to we Biafrans are facing day by day in hands of nigerians. Therefore, let enough be enough, We are going home this time says the lord, no amount of forces or intimidation would stop us. I am ready to die for my beloved country in every sides. My question for nigerians is that: Are they ready to die for the entity called niger+area, ? created by their lord's lugard girl friend. Gowon be ready to defend your one nigeria again as you did before. But be rest assured that no body, I repeat no single of you will escape the heats this time.We all most die together if biafarans refused to let go in peace this time."Rubbish" Thank God that we are in new technology world.

  8. Let them go please if thats what they want and let there be peace. What about allowing a referendum to let them decide if they want independence.

  12. Mr Gowon what you're invited to Lafia is to talk on malarial. Why is it that any time you're invited to talk you always gravitate to the Nig/Biafra civil war. The Housa/Fulani are wiping your people from the face of the earth & you as former head of state can't do anything. Use that your time you devote to dishing out false & egoistic drama to find solution to stop the bleeding in your state. As far as Housa/Fulani is concerned you're a woman.

  14. Let's face it: Ibos have been marginalized in Nigeria. This is unfair. If we think their small population puts them at a disadvantage should another war arise, let's remember that God can turn the tables against the rest of Nigeria. Personally I wouldn't want the Ibos to secede. I want rather that their fair share of the 'national cake' be given to them. By this I mean give them one or two more States like other geopolitical zones in the country, allow them to be President of Nigeria. Someone would ask if that is not by election. Yes, by election, but election can be arranged as it was done for the Yorubas in 1999. To ensure a Yoruba emerged President, it was so arranged that each of the two political parties then produced a Yoruba as presidential candidate. So emerged Obasanjo and Falae. So what's so difficult doing same today. Let's treat the Ibos well. They are part of Nigeria like others. No ethnic group should feel more Nigerian than others.

  15. Anonymous 6:54pm you dont need to insult people and sound childish before stating your views. I ask fellow Nigerians: Is it better and more economical and more life saving to go to war with people whom you know that are been unfairly treated? I have properties in Lagos (where I live) ABUJA(4) Production company in Ibadan Kaduna and Zungeru but I am not afraid of those material things because the way Nigeria is going I may still loose those properties due to wicked governance and still remain in this enclave where only Fulanis rule. It is rather prefferable to call a referendum for the one Nigeria of our dream rather than ask if Biafrans want a country because the injustic and hatred is expressed everywhere even on social media.

  18. Oil is the major issue. Igbo's are after the oil in d south south. The rest of d country does not want a secession bc of the dependence on oil. May God let d oil dry off soon or lose its value completely. By that time no one will care whether they go or not. In fact there will be no threat of secession again.

  20. Why are you so bitter? And you are literate enough?

  21. My dear General Gowon with due respect, you and your civil war generation of Generals made mistake and still are making mistakes in your perception and definition of Nigerian state. By waging war against the Igbos in 60s you only postponed the agitation of Ndigbo for homeland. It is important to note everyone has the right to agitate for self rule just you and people have to support the existence of Nigeria. This fundamental right is sacrosanct and can not be taken away from us even in the midst defeat. If indeed we respect human blood this is the perfect time to conduct referendum as it was done in UK recently. No entity is cast on stone. We can not continue to live in self denial that our unity is negotiable. The issue of Biafra is not done my General Gowon rather it is evolving with every generation of Ndigbo devicing it's own means for agitation. The resolve of lgbo people can never be defeated in any civil war.

  22. Anonymous 6:54pm,I will advice you meet your few literate boko haram elders to send you and your Boko Haram brothers to school, so that you can understand what is happening in the modern world. You will finish the whole Igbos in three hours, that is what your stupid father and grand fathers could not do for more than three years, you and your stupid Nigeria could not even defend your self against a small group of illiterates JIHADIST for so many years now, but you want to come and fight the BIAFRANS.

  23. Those claiming that oil is the brain behind Biafran agitation are stupid. How many times since after the war have you seen or heard any Igbo community, state or individual do anything to acquire oil well. The entire oil blocks are owned by Fulanis ranging from TY Danjuma to Sahara the Emires and Sultan etc. Anyone can go and make enquiry. How many oil block is owned by Ojukwu or any Igbo man? Nigeria is a wicked slave enclave and needs to be challenged.

  24. And you have not finished Bokoharam in 3hrs....You think Britain,Russia and Egypt will be there for you again ??? Only Igbo's held the entire Nigeria with the help of Britain,Russia,Egypt and others for three good years with locally made ammunition....Then think about what will happen now that your divide and rule amongst our brothers in South South has stopped working,There are plenty modern ammunation and there are are also countries interested in Biafra....

  25. To me Gowon has always and will forever remain a COWARD. He should talk like an ex-head of state not like a bus stop or vendor park analyst. Even if he hates Igbos to the marrow, yet he is married to Victoria, an Igbo. He never opened his mouth to say certain rubbish till Ojukwu died. He never said any thing about HID Awolowo till her death to tell the lie that he used her to get Awo to serve in his rotten cabinet. That was more of a disservice to Awo's memory than as a praise for his wife. Gowon, enough of this lies. If you are wise and intelligent write your own memoirs and biography, let's see. You have been forgotten for good . So all these talk is to remind us you are still there JAY 2, Abuja.

  26. Pls stop spreading hate. We are one nation. Erm as for the countries interested in biafra i disagree. We are more attractive together than apart. Besides the oil states will never join biafra coz the Igbos will enslave them.

Thank u all.

  28. Gowon Genocidal, do Biafrans need to fight to be free, if u think that majority of Igbo re not in support of Biafra you re making a mistake, even your people in Plateau have now come to realize it was a mistake for joining Hausa-Fulani to kill Biafrans. Still you have rafuse to accept truth because you re guilty. Biafra will be restore and you will be put to shame, is a promise.

You can't continue to reside in Lagos and claim biafrans. Go home first, we will decide whether to give you passports to come to the new Nigeria for your business deals. Hiss. Go ask your fathers if they still want biafra.

  34. Who are the leaders of Biafra? Is it the Kanu that lives in the UK? If there are bigger voices who actually have a plan for the proposed Biafra Nation they should come out and speak up. MASSOB disowned Kanu, so why can't the legitimate voices come out and speak up.

  35. It is wrong to one to insinuates that to gain freedom means fighting a war. We have gone past the era where freedom could only be granted through violent agitation. This is democracy not military. So let's debunk any thought of engaging in war in order for one to gain freedom. A Democratic society don't indulge in war but rather issues are resolve in lawful and peaceful manner. Instead of thinking and talking about war, let's think and talk of how Nigeria can organise a referendum to resolve issues national unity.

  36. well nobody is talking abt fighting war now...senegal and gambia has separated, north korea and south korea separated also and recently north sudan and south sudan, we want to go, i am not a nigerian but an igbo biafran, gowon said 2 hrs they finish us now someone says 3 hrs well we fought them to a still for 3 yrs and if not for banjo and awolowo we would hv conquered nigeria and i join my hero ojukwu in paying condolence to awolowo as the best president nigeria will never have. all we are saying is that nigeria is not and can never be one we have had enough of no victor no vanquished, enough of federal character and all the like schemes designed to perpetuate northern hegemony over the ndi igbo enough is enough

  37. IF GOWON IS LITERATE ENOUGH LET HIM READ ALL THESE REJOINDER. IS HE NOT FROM PLATEAU STATE? LET HIM COMMENT ON HOW HIS HAUSA/FULANI "BROTHERS" ARE MASSACRING HIS PLATEAU KINSMEN. HE LIKES TO REMIND US HE IS STILL ALIVE. HE IS A COWARD AND A DISGRACE AND CURSE ON NIGERIAN LEADERSHIP. A SHAME OF A CHARACTER. POOR LEADERSHIP EVEN HIS OWN COUSIN ANNOUNCED HIS OVERTHROW. LET HIM REMAIN SILENT. CAN/WILL HE EVER RECEIVE STATE BURIAL LIKE OJUKWU? NO. HE SHOULD BOTHER HIMSELF ABOUT THE BRUTALITY AGAINST HIS PLATEAU PEOPLE BY THE SO CALLED FULANI HERDSMEN. HISTORY WILL ULTIMATELY WRITE HIS NAME AND PERIOD IN DASHES, THE PERIOD OF DARK AGES IN NIGERIAN HISTORY. Jay 2, Abuja.

  39. Igbos who are in support of Biafra can go but in your wildest imaginations will you think that's the Niger Delta region will follow. Greed and selfishness by some Igbo is coming to fore here. The Igbos are allowed to have properties and public posts all over Nigeria, but how many non igbos have properties or hold any public post in an Igbo land. The trues patriotic igbos obviously and will vehemently reject a Biafra. How many of the agitators fought the Biafra war? ishh.
