The Air Ambulance had been put on notice to fly the first executive governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha overseas for further treatment when he succumbed to death on Saturday.
The arrangement, according to a top Bayelsa government official, was at the instance of the state deputy governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John-Jonah (rtd) after his visit to Alamiyeseigha on his sick bed at the hospital in Port Harcourt.
It was gathered that the state deputy governor, who was at Omoku in Rivers State for a programme at Agip on hearing about the former governor's poor health called him on phone on Friday and spoke with him at about 8.15pm, before his demise on Saturday contrary to claims that he (Alamieyeseigha) was in coma for two days before he passed on.
"This is a sad loss for Bayelsa and Ijaw nation. Contrary to claim that Alamieyeseigha was in coma for two days before he passed on, the state deputy governor who was at Omoku for a programme at Agip on hearing about Alamieyeseigha's poor health called and spoke with him on phone at about 8.15pm.
He even directed the state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ayibatonye Owei to stay back and monitor him.
The deputy governor later visited him at the hospital on Saturday morning before leaving for Yenagoa with an instruction that an air ambulance be put on notice for him (Aalamieyeseigha) to be flown abroad for further treatment.
"Shortly after the deputy governor arrived Yenagoa, he received the sad news that Alamieyeseigha had passed on," the source said.
The state commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dan Kikile, who spoke to newsmen said the deputy governor actually spoke with the former governor on phone on Friday but declined further comments.
He confirmed that Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha died of complications arising from High Blood pressure and Diabetics which affected his kidney.
"He had chronic kidney disease which was aggravated by the sudden rise in his blood pressure and the long diabetics," he said

So Nigeria hospitals (in Port harcourt, Yenagoa and others) could not control High Blood pressure and Diabetics. This is a sad day for our medical system in Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pity really and what a way to go.
ReplyDeleteWe extend our sincere condolences to his entire family and the Ijaw Nation.
Come to think of it, maybe he could not be flown abroad due to the unresolved UK palaver. They would have handcuffed him to his sick bed while he his receiving treatment abroad.
Bottom line, GEJ never really did this poor man any good at the end of the day.
What a life and what a way to go.
Any government that fails to build a standard hospital shall suffer same fate
ReplyDeleteHe was elected and called Governor General of Ijaw People but he died and hopefully his gravestone would read "Embezzlement General of Ijaw People" as his lasting legacy
ReplyDeleteAmen in Jesus name !
ReplyDeleteone by one they will go the way of
High blood pressure
Cancer related disease
Untimely death
uncommon disease
for all the money they stol in Nigeria, Amen
His body should still be extradited to the Uk
you be aboki? you no get value for life? abi you think say long life na for saints? the man might not pass your righteous standard but has God to face not man, for all have sinned, including your father... anu ofia, didn't your mother tell you not to speak evil of the dead?
DeleteThis headline attributed to no other source than Bayelsa state leadership is a shameful one. For some years running, Bayelsa state has fallen among the three largest oil allocation recipients from Federal coffers; Bayelsa state produced the immediate past president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Why should anyone be flown out for treatment?
ReplyDeleteSo no good hospital in Bayelsa where d immediate past president is from?but, port Harcourt. Even d ph hospital can't revive him...Karma is a bitch
