World's fastest man, and avid Manchester United supporter, Usain Bolt ditched his colours and donned a brand spanking new Arsenal jersey after losing a confident bet with Mexican television presenter Patty Lopez de la Cerda.
Bolt, a holding midfielder by trade, once publicly said he was good enough to play for his beloved Manchester United and tried to convince then manager Sir Alex Ferguson to give him a trial at Old Traffod, something that sadly never materialised.
The six-time Olympic gold medal winner was so confident that United would beat Arsenal on Sunday that he was willing to commit to a high stakes wager with the Mexican presenter who is a keen Arsenal supporter.
Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger crumbled in midfield, Sanchez ran riot and Arsenal won 3-0. The result? A specially modified Gunners shirt with ‘Bolt 9.58’ on the back – his world record 100m time:
So i lost a bet with @pattylopezdelac that man untied would win but they didn't so I have to pay up on my bet so sorry guys. #nothappy #seriousface
It’s been a torrid week for Bolt. Having been forced to wear the Arsenal shirt, Bolt was beaten in a race by an eight-year-old boy while appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres show.
Bolt also took the occasion to announce his plans to hang up his spikes after the 2017 Olympics in Rio: ‘I start training for the Olympics next Monday [October 12]. It will be my last Olympics,’ he said.
