'Tribunal’s Judgment is not the verdict of God' - Governor Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers said on Saturday that the he will appeal against the nullification of his election by the Election Petition Tribunal.

Wike disclosed this to newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, shortly after arrival from Abuja.

He said as a lawyer, he was not supposed to criticise any judge for whatever opinion the judge had.

“ So, what I can say is that the tribunal has given it own verdict, but we know that by the special grace of God, that is not the verdict of God.

“ Nobody can take your mandate, “ he said.

According to Wike, our lawyers are going on appeal, we are going to appeal.

He said if need be, the case would get to the Supreme Court.

The governor said he was convinced that he had a good case and that in Lagos, one of the grounds that the PDP governorship candidate went to court was the issue of card reader.

“So, I want to urge you to be calm and be peaceful; I am still the governor of Rivers State.

“Our lawyers are going on appeal; we are all going on appeal. There is also the Supreme Court. We believe that we have a good case, “ he said.

    3. Anonymous 10:14AM. You are one of those useless and jobless youths who go cap-in-hand and "bootlick" the shoes of Wike which is why you will say anything to protect your Godfather Thug of Obiakpor. but the days of you and your benefactor Ogboni leather is over for good. You and your fellow useless gangs will be flushed out of Rivers State back to the bush and fishing pot.

  3. Everyone knows that Rivers elections were absolute rubbish. The results were totally out of place when PDP had over a million score and the ruling party APC with just 124,896. It doesn't make sense at all. Am very convinced that the results will be better if the election conducted afresh.

  4. PDP is still the party in a rivers state. Amaechi remains a fugitive on exile. Peterside will soon join his master on exile. Wike do not need to go to bapeal. He should accept the verdict and look forward to reflection. The second winning will be clearer to the world.

  9. Many of us saw the pictures of the juveniles that voted in the north during the past election. In Lagos State, Jimmy Agbaje won the election but APC rigged him out. So why is rivers state so different. Funny enough the people of Rivers do not want APC as the ruling party but it is obvious that Amechi and Co want to impose it on rivers state. None of them is clean so why will people pretend to be better than others. That oppression going on in Lagos State will never get to rivers state.

  11. If APC manipulated and rigged elections in Lagos, Imo, kano etc and all was well, even supported by all who are condemning Wike and PDP for rigging in Rivers state, is this not a double talk?. All politicians are the same and no one should present holier than though posture. I have not seen any difference between PDP and APC! . Wike has a good case for his appeal to succeed. So APC should not celebrate yet. All these hullabaloo is because PDP won in these states . I will not be surprised if Delta state go the same way today as Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.

  13. Gentlemen, Tribunal has ruled, we are going to appeal court. I want to believe that all of us will accept the verdict of the court whenever it delivers its judgment. Supporters of both parties should therefore, exercise patience and let the rule of law takes its normal course.
