Stop taking bribes, change your ways - AIG tells policemen

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Mr Ballah Nasarawa, has warned officers in the zone to desist from corrupt practices that could tarnish the reputation of the force.

Nasarawa gave the warning during a working visit to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command in Abuja on Tuesday.

“Things are changing in our country; the police cannot be left behind. If you want to continue on this job, you have to change your character,” he told the officers.

He urged the officers to ensure that they discharged their responsibilities effectively without being intimidated.

“You should not be intimidated, be firm in discharging your responsibilities,” he said.

Nasarawa stated that security would be stepped up at the Internally Displaced Persons’ camps in the zone.

“We have reviewed the situation in the IDPs camps; security arrangement will be beefed up in the FCT and its environs,” he said.

On the upcoming recruitment of policemen, he advised applicants to refrain from approaching officers for assistance as the exercise would be based on merit.

“On no account should anyone approach officers for assistance as the exercise will be based on merit. Do not involve yourselves in corrupt practices during the recruitment exercise,” he said.

He warned that anyone caught offering money to any officer would be dealt with accordingly, warning the officers not involved in the exercise to steer clear of it.

“If you are not involved in the recruitment exercise, then continue with your work,” he said.
