Reps to wade into the case of 29, 000 Nigerians scheduled for deportation from the UK

The House of Representatives Thursday mandated its committee on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs to wade into the case of 29, 000 Nigerians scheduled for deportation from the United Kingdom (UK).

The resolution of the House followed a motion on matters of urgent public importance entitled “need to address the issues and challenges surrounding 29, 000 Nigerians tagged for deportation from the UK” sponsored by Rep Rita Orji.

Rep Orji had in the motion noted that the deportation faced by these Nigerians was a result of a migration crisis created by troubled regions of the globe adding that most of them have spent a minimum of 30 years and have lost touch with the country.

According to her, “Deporting these Nigerians without appropriately ascertaining their identity, economic situation, health and family status will constitute a problem to themselves, Nigeria and Nigerians.

“The UK government did not disclose whether those facing deportation have legal right to stay in the UK or not and why this huge number of Nigerians needed to face deportation all at once,”

She was also worried that most of those to be deported may not have been to Nigeria since they left and may no longer have families in the country.
The House however, declined to take a resolution urging the UK government to stay action and follow diplomatic means in handling the deportation matter.

  1. UK will never deport any national that has legal authority to stay in the Uk unless they have criminal record.Nigeria has equally deported foreign nationals living in Nigeria illegally in the past and even recently,so Nigeria government should not act dumb and irresponsible with their comments. No Nigerian travels to the Uk then abandoned their family root in Nigeria afterwards, they all have families back in Nigeria to return to
