Former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, appeared before the senate for screening as a ministerial nominee, condemning acts of corruption and revealed that had never taken bribe in his life either as a private person or public official.
Amaechi who was asked to define corruption said, “Corruption is very difficult to define. If you are a public officer and you don’t take bribe, I’ve never taken bribe in my life but if they send a girl to you and you sleep with the girl and do her favour, you are corrupt.”
According to him, “Corruption is a very wide concept. If people are contesting for a position and you offer your son, brother or sister an opportunity to hold that position, probably the person is not qualified, you are corrupt. So, it is difficult for me to define corruption.”
He said the APC used anti-corruption to sell the Buhari brand to Nigerians.
Amaechi said, “We sold to the public the fact that there was massive corruption in the system and that there was the need to fight that corruption. We agreed that the only way to fight that corruption is to put a new government.
“So, we had to get a signpost candidate. The signpost candidate is a man who the Nigerian public has seen as an incorruptible president; that was why the party had to put President Buhari forward. We thought that there was a need to do things differently.
“I thought that as good as the former President (Goodluck Jonathan) might have been, I don’t think he was suitable enough for the growth and development of Nigeria. So, we needed to offer an opportunity to somebody we believe is better than the former President.
Amaechi denied being indicted by the Rivers State Government Commission of Inquiry instituted to investigate his stewardship as the governor for eight years.
He said, “There was nowhere I was indicted (in the judicial panel report). I was born to test my rights and fight for my rights, I was once a student union leader and believe me, if there is one man who does not like corruption, I do not like corruption.
“I came here with a copy of the so-called panel report, there is no where that the panel indicted me, I am ready to tender this report before the Senate. I was ready for the questions on it and I brought the panel report so the Senate can juxtapose it with the White Paper.
“However, because there are challenges, people in Nigerian politics believe that there is the need to compromise and be able to manage yourself around; I will do that but where it clashes with my principles I find it a bit difficult to do what people expect me to do.”

Yes!!! Na only cross you dey carry.
ReplyDeleteHmmnnn, Amaechi is the most righteous politician in Naija, more cleaned than PMB . ahaaa I dey laugh oooooo
ReplyDeleteNa me dey collect am
ReplyDeleteRighteous man ND a saint nonsense
PMB clean abi? Wake up you maga.
ReplyDeleteAmeachi thank God you know that corruption is wide. Collecting federal allocations and doing nothing for the people of rivers state meaningful is corruption if you don't know. Wake up and go for confession. God is watching
ReplyDeleteIt only takes a man with moral courage to say that, if anyone can prove otherwise let them come with their evidence. How many politicians can dare say that on national TV for the whole world to say. Ameachi had raised the bar of integrity in public Service by saying that even a bit above PMB. I am enjoying these melodrama on corruption stance; because it's now trendy...very soon when we greet what's up.... we'll say no corruption instead of no problem...lol
ReplyDeleteDoes corruption have a definite definition?
DeleteI think that was view about himself and if anyone have evidence of corruption against him should come out and challenged him
ReplyDeleteThat was his view and if anyone have evidence of corruption against him should come out and challenged him.
ReplyDeleteHe was given a chance to clear himself in a panel but he failed. He want to discuss panel report in Senate screening how thoughtful he is. He has not taken bribe before but he should have been starter to say if he has given. Thank God he will one day face the only panel that he shall not have anything to hide - the judgement day before his creator.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you! Someday he will stand before the Senate President of the universe where he will not use words and lies to scale through. God can never be mocked even if every Nigerian chooses to allow himself to be deceived.
Delete'Amechi is not corrupt', please was it the inheritance his father left him that he used to sponsor the do called 'corruption fighter president' who today has proven to Nigerians how 'incorrupt' he is in making a man that stole for him part of his cabinet (as a reward). Even Tinubu, Atiku and none APC member is corrupt.
Nigerians should always remember that Idiagbo was the 'war against in discipline' crusader and not his rubber -stamp head of state then.
Today, from not having money to buy the presidential ticket, to owning an estate in one of the choice parts of Abuja, we see out 'clean' man unfolding. Some of us know better
People should stop peddling rumours and lies. If anyone have no evidence of corruption against Amaechi, then hold your peace and allow him to enjoy his life.
ReplyDeleteLying lips is an abomination.
He has been challenged and petitions have been sent. The issue is that the investigating agencies have refused to do anything about it because they believe that the President and the ruling party want to reward him because he ONLY stole to finance the removal of the PDP at the Federal level. That's why they would invite Akpabio upon a petition written by an Abuja based lawyer but would not invite Amaechi despite all the petitions written by different groups in his state some of which have been published with documentary evidence in the newspapers. We should be careful because this is the same impunity that the APC kept accusing Jonathan's govt of allowing. When a community finds out that one of its sons built the community hall with illegally acquired funds, at the worst it should tell him to go and sin no more and not reward him with a chieftaincy title. APC could have done better to remove this moral burden hanging over the President.
ReplyDeleteThumbs up! This is the only reasonable comment so far. Man is inexcusable whether he stole to support President Buhari or not, truth be told Mr Ameachi does not deserve the ministerial nomination. APC wants to play double standard and We wish them luck.
DeleteCan the said documentary and newspaper evidence stand court scrutiny? If no, then the said evidence is null and void.
DeleteIt is possible for newspapers to lie.
Going by this proof thing, hardly do you find anyone corrupt in Nigeria, please how many proofs has come up of even those that the dumbest of all know are corrupt? The people that ripped this nation of wealth are celebrated as elder statesmen. Abacha's proof of corruption emerged only because he died. When you hear some Nigerians fight for these corrupt politicians, you just wonder but of course birds of the same feather, they say, flock together. So I'm not surprised.
DeleteFor anyone looking for proof for Amechi's corruption, we all know one - the money he used to sponsor the removal of PDP from power, where did it come from? His inheritance? Was the money left in his care for that purpose? Was it a diversion? For those looking for proof of Amechi's corruption, answer the question.
Somebody pls tell me: Who was that senator day ask Amaechi to define corruption?
ReplyDeleteAll the APCs now understand that Corruption is difficult to define from Amechi's words but they were against GEJ when GEJ said corruption is not the same as stealing.
ReplyDeleteCorruption is when you use your state's allocation to sponsor election.
ReplyDeleteDon't be fooled, Amaechi defined curruption by giving examples . Anybody who is sure about the offence of Amaechi should go to court. What is all this cry.Live up to your standard.
