I won’t lose sleep over criticism - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will not lose sleep over criticism and that he wants to be remembered as a president who fought corruption to a standstill.

Buhari during a press conference after the India-Africa Summit, which took place in New Delhi, called on Nigerians, who are not corruptly enriching themselves with public funds, not to be afraid of the fight against corruption and that they should encourage him to get whoever had compromised his position and the trust given to him.

Buhari said remained resolute in the fight against corruption and would want to be remembered for that.

Buhari whose government has security, economy and the fight against corruption main focus and is regularly bashed for been slow said “They call me baba go slow, but I will go slow and steady”.

On Racism the president said it is the state of mind of people, individuals which a nation state cannot absolutely control. So I don’t think people should be preoccupied if somebody says ‘get away you black man’ or whatever,” said Mr Buhari.

The President must be bothered that the National Assembly had been polarised following his choice of ministers.

While he was away, the PDP and the All Progressives Congress’ lawmakers were sharply divided over one of his ministerial nominees, Mr Chibuike Amaechi.

Following the confirmation of his ministerial nominees, President Buhari said he would prune down the number of ministries so as to be able to pay salaries.

On whether there will be an extension of a three-month deadline given by his administration to flush out Boko Haram from Nigeria’s north-east, the President said that the target was to get rid of terrorism and not about meeting deadline.

One of the main talking points at the one-day summit in New Delhi, was the provision India had make for African countries. The nation said it had set aside over $10 billion grant for African countries.

Wooing investors, President Buhari assured Indians and the international community of his administration’s commitment to sustaining efforts aimed at making Nigeria an envy of all.

He urged them to avail themselves of the conducive environment that would be created for investments to thrive.

  1. You said it sir. It was the same in 1984. May we humbly remind you of what Brig. Joshua Dogonyaro said in his broadcast of that 1985 coup that overthrew your first coming as Nigerian leader:

    Fellow Nigerians,

When in December 1983, the former military leadership, headed by Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, assumed the reins of government, its accession was heralded in the history of this country. With the nation at the mercy of political misdirection and on the brink of economic collapse, a new sense of hope was created in the minds of every Nigerian.

Since January 1984, however, we have witnessed a systematic denigration of that hope. It was stated then that mismanagement of political leadership and a general deterioration in the standard of living, which had subjected the common man to intolerable suffering, were the reasons for the intervention.

Nigerians have since then been under a regime that continued with those trends. Events today indicate that most of the reasons which justified the military takeover of government from the civilians still persist.
Let me at this point attempt to make you understand the premise upon which it became necessary to change the leadership. The principles of discussions, consultation and co-operation which should have guided decision-making process of the Supreme Military Council and the Federal Executive Council were disregarded soon after the government settled down in 1984.Where some of us thought it appropriate to give a little more time, anticipating a conducive atmosphere that would develop, in which affairs of state could be attended to with greater sense of responsibility, it became increasingly clear that such expectations could not be fulfilled.
Regrettably, it turned out that Major-General Muhammadu Buhari was too rigid and uncompromising in his attitudes to issues of national significance. Efforts to make him understand that a diverse polity like Nigeria required recognition and appreciation of differences in both cultural and individual perceptions, only served to aggravate these attitudes.

Well sir, we don't want another Dogonyaro to disrupt our hard earned democracy. You will do well to listen to and make good use of criticisms, especially concerning your lopsided anti-corruption war. Do not be deceived by sycophants: no sane, objective or sincere mind is impressed by a glaring anti-PDP war holily tagged anti-corruption war. We want peace sir. Please don't "stoicly" like in 1984 refuse to heed constructive criticism. God bless you and bless our dear nation too.

  2. I already know that next election would not be free and fair. NIGERIANS WILL SOON MISS GEJ. It is ok to fight corruption but GMB is not fighting corruption but rather fighting political enemies. There are lots of sacred cows like Ameachi, Fashiola and Tinubu. Our president should not keep sacred cows. Mr. President have forgotten a statement he made in the beginning that I belong to everyone and I belong to no one (I might not have gotten the exact statement). Bringing Ameachi as a minister shows that Mr. President belongs to a particular carcus and does not belong to all. MR. PRESIDENT SHOULD NOTE THAT IT IS NOT JUST PDP THAT ARE AGAINST AMEACHI, THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT IS OF THE OPINION THAT MR. PRESIDENT SHOULD NOT INCLUDE AMEACHI BECAUSE OF HIS CORRUPT NATURE. IF HE DOES THEN WE KNOW HE IS NOT FIGHTING CORRUPTION BUT POLITICAL ENEMIES. AMEACHI IS SACRED COWS. MR. VICE PRESIDENT LIED EVEN AS AN PASTOR IN HIS STATEMENT THAT THERE WILL BE NO SACRED COW.
