Amaechi’s letter to Saraki Lacks merit - PDP

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP says the letter written by Mr Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of the State, urging the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to disregard the Rivers State Government White Paper on the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry for the investigation of his administration on the sale of valued assets and other related matters, which indicted him, (Amaechi), lacks merit and logic.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Bro Felix Obuah made the assertion while reacting to the letter by Mr Amaechi to the Senate President, Saraki.

According to Bro Obuah in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam, Amaechi’s letter to the Senate President is an attempt to ignore the White Paper report, undermine the crusade against corruption and expose President Buhari’s fight against corruption as partisan and targeted at only members of the opposition and perceived enemies.

“The invitation and interrogation of the Senate Minority Leader, former governor of Akwa Ibom State, and one of the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Godswill Akpabio, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, while Mr Rotimi Amaechi, indicted for corruption is freely going about lobbying to become a minister, is a pointer that Buhari’s fight against corruption is targeted at the opposition and perceived enemies”, the statement revealed.

The PDP said the monumental fraud discovered by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry and huge revenue lost when Amaechi was governor of Rivers State cannot be ignored.

Amaechi has no defense to allegations of fraud against him as contained in the Government White Paper. He was invited and he failed to appear before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

Bro Obuah drew the attention of the Senate President, Saraki to the combined provisions of Sections 66, (1) (h) and 147 (5) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which unambiguously disqualifies Mr Rotimi Amaechi from being a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

If in doubt, the PDP counseled Mr Amaechi to seek interpretation of the relevant sections of the constitution from his lawyers.

The combined effect of sections 66 (1) (h) and 147 (5) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended and read together disqualifies Rotimi Amaechi from becoming a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Therefore, Amaechi’s letter to the Senate President should be disregarded. It lacks merit and contradicted the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.

The letter to the Senate President further makes mockery of Amaechi and amounts to desperation and glorification of corruption.

  2. If this act from an 11 year old doesn't teach you forgiveness, I doubt if anything else will...

    It reads:

"My daughter has not seen her biological dad since she was four. She’s 11 now. When she was two he contacted me and asked if I would allow him to terminate his parental rights so he could stop paying child support and I agreed.. I wanted to spare her the heartache of a revolving door father and the sacrifice of the financial support was well worth him never being able to disappoint her again.

I never lied to her about where he went or who her dad was.. I have always answered her questions in the most age appropriate way possible.

When she was four he contacted me and told me he has been diagnosed with cancer and would like to see her. I set aside a day and we met in the park. He had asked for two hours. He stayed 20 minutes and we never heard from him again..

Over the summer we ran into somebody that knows him and they commented on how she looks like his other children. They elaborated that he has settled down and has a family now. My stomach tied itself in knots thinking of how hurtful that must be to my daughter..

I cut the conversation short and we got in the car to leave and that’s when I saw her smiling. She said:
