Akure monarch stops Eze-Ndigbo from wearing crown, demands apology

The Deji of Akureland in Ondo State, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi yesterday listed conditions for truce with the estranged Eze Ndigbo of Akure, Gregory Iloehike.

One of the condition was that the Igbo leader is forbidden from wearing any form of crown henceforth.

Oba Aladelusi gave the conditions during a meeting Governor Olusegun Mimiko had with him and the Akure Council of Chiefs in Akure on the lingering crisis.

The governor had earlier met with the Igbo leaders led by the embattled Eze Ndigbo, Iloehike at the governors office.

Ileohike was said to have denied disrespecting the Oba and pleaded with the governor to help resolve the over one-week crisis.

Other conditions include that the Eze Ndigbo must apologize for his unruly behaviour in at least three national dailies and on air.

“That the Igbo leader must write a letter of apology to Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi and the Deji-in-Council.

“That the title ‘Eze Ndigbo’ must be reviewed and replaced with a non-controversial honorary title and that the Igbo Leader must comply with all the earlier directives of the palace.’’

Dr Mimiko, however, apologized to the Oba on behalf of the Igbo Leader.

  1. Is this so called Eze Igbo not a Nigerian citizen? you are an IGBO man for God's sake. Igbo land does not extend to Akure therefore, you can not be an Eze Igbo in that land even if you were crowned in Igboland. Your crown is territorial, my advice as an informed Igboman is for you to drop the Title and apologise to no man born of an unknown woman. The Igboman my father told me I am does not live an apologetic life,he fights battles and leave the worries of war to others and falls like a soldier should he ever go down. Do not APOLOGISE except you are an IBOMAN!

    1. It is foolishness and emptiness of the bunch of semi literate igbos whose thirst for title has no end that is bringing ridicule and disdain to their tribe. I understand if other tribes are this shameless. The igbo society is an acephalous one. Traditionally they did not have kings thereby no Kingdom. But they organised themselves in a democratic fashion by taking decision at village squares in an enviable democratic fashion . Ibos deserve pity for trading away this culture for baseless fame and greed

    2. Well spoken. I am of the opinion that the Igbos outside Igbo land should drop this madness called Eze ndigbo.
Igbos have no king except God Almighty.
Please drop this madness and stop opportunists from insulting the integrity of the Igbo race.

  7. The Yoruba should be careful and alert, so that our land will not be taken away in the name of being a Nigerian and therefore free to live anywhere . But not to encroach on others land and authority. The ibos started this in Lagos and trying to apply it in Akure. No crown for any tribe on our land , go to your land to be crowned.

  8. After Biafra is achieved, your leaders will then turn against each other. They already are.

  11. To the yoruba monachs and others who are too hard on Ndi Igbo. Nothin is permanent. You should not mistreat people who contribute to economic and social development of your towns and cities. Do not capitalise on any misdeeds to wreck havoc on them. There are better ways to settle and resolve issues and call those involved to order to avert future occurance. And to the Igbos, begin to think home and do not put all your eggs in one basket. Investments and saving at home are far better and safer than those outside. Let your voice be one.

  12. Eze Ndigbo title should be abolished nation wide because Igbo culture does not even recognise it. These people create titles to feed their personal egos without considering how it affects the culture of their hosts. He can be the chairman of his association which he really is. That title won't be recognized when he gets to his village. I'm an Igbo man.

  14. I don't seem to get the issue here ? How does a man who calls himself President of his company, General of his church, God of his family or EZE Igbo of his community affect an Oba ? Seems we have lost it in this country. God save us.
