The World Bank says it needs additional time to provide comprehensive information on the spending of recovered funds looted by the late Nigerian Head of State, Sani Abacha.
The World Bank told the human rights group seeking information on the loot, which is about seven billion dollars, that for now it is compiling information on the spending.
According to the World Bank “In response to your request, we would like to inform you that we are still considering your request and we will need additional time because the money involved is too huge for us to handle.”
The World Bank said that although it takes just 20 working days to respond to such requests, under special cases it could take much longer time.
The loot stolen by the former military ruler from 1993 to 1998 is estimated to be worth 11.3 billion dollars.
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, had written to the World Bank demanding information on the spending of the loot recovered from the late military dictator, General Sani Abacha.
The World Bank acknowledged the request and asked for more time to be able to supply comprehensive information on how the recovered Abacha loot was spent. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Where are those hausa fulani almajiri product.. They said that abacha is a saint. Even buhari said that abacha was not corrupt...
ReplyDeleteAnd your brother GEJ gave him a National Award through his wife for looting Nigeria Dry...Please find some other excuse for your stupidity.
DeleteYou don't understand why GEJ gave an award to Abacha: Abacha was Professor Emeritus of Looting under whom GEJ's women and men studied!
DeleteY calling d name of GEJ now....r u obsessed with dat name??
DeleteOh! My God. Too huge to handle. In grammar there is difference between too/very. It is wonderful that a single person surrounded by millions of poor people own this wealth. Now he has left it but will account for it in front of Allah. Most of our leaders are really wicked. How many companies does he have in Nigeria? May Allah be with Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteAmin
DeleteIs Abacha's loot more than the whole money in the world bank that they cannot account for it now? "Oyibo wayo"
ReplyDeleteBuhari said Abacha did not loot and he know that is a lie but chose to defend his follow northerners. Buhari is not against looting rather against unauthorised looting from southerners. You are now in one chance mode.
ReplyDeleteLet's not forget that uncle Jona gave award to Abacha through his son during the centenary celebration. That was why Soyinka and some Nigerians refused to receive any honour on such platform that rewarded spoilers of Nigeria. We must as a serious people stand together to condem and say no to corruption and stop advocating or celebrating corrupt individuals irrespective of the tribes and affiliations.
ReplyDeleteOver 20 years ago when this loot was stashed away! Who is fulling Who? Oyibo woyo!
ReplyDeleteEvery body received award that day based on his accomplishment, so my brother jona gave abacha an award based on him being master of looting. That's his individual accomplishment, soon he will be recognised with noble Laurete. Wayo people
ReplyDeleteAbacha's most serious crime is that he died. Abacha met our foreign reserve at 500 million dollars, raised it during his five year reign to 9.5 billion dollars, made remarkable intervention in infrastructural development and housing provision, stabilized our naira at that time. Then Abdusalami came, took our foreign reserve down to 5 billion dollars and contributed his own quota to out democratic development. I then ask the world bank to give us insight on the loot stashed by our leaders before Abacha and the leaders after Abacha. We all remember very vividly how it was alleged that Nigeria spent 16 billion dollars to generate additional 1000 megawatts of electricity. Abacha violated human rights and so did our democratically elected leaders after Abacha. Political assassination etc etc unresolved and unaccounted for. God will help these sets of hypocrites. WORLD BANK PLEASE RETURN ALL THE MONEY LOOTED FROM NIGERIAN COFFERS be it Abacha's, IBB's, Abdusalami's, Obasanjo's, Yaradua;d or GEJ's.
ReplyDeleteOle gbe, Ole gba
ReplyDeleteThe world bank itself is a looter and a thief......they know all these money are looted but they are very happy to receive it. Using it to develop Europe and America and kind of free money to your citizens, It is obvious that this world bank is one of major player to Africa's set back.
