Tinubu bars senator loyal to Saraki from APC caucus meetings

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has barred the lawmaker representing Ondo-Central senatorial district, Senator Tayo Alasoadura, from attending South-West caucus meetings, Punch reports.

It was learnt that the senator was ostracised for allegedly working against the interest of the party’s South-West leadership and for taking sides with Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Alasoadura was also among the senators that followed Saraki to the Code of Conduct Tribunal in solidarity on Tuesday.

A reliable source within the partyrevealed that Alasoadura had been sidelined from all APC South-West meetings for his disloyalty to Tinubu.

The source said, “Alasoadura was a Commissioner for Finance under the late Dr. Olusegun Agagu for over five years. He later defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Action Congress of Nigeria. Tinubu accepted him and appointed him the Director-General of the Rotimi Akeredolu governorship campaign organisation in 2013.

“Alasoadura was not even supposed to have emerged the senatorial candidate of the APC in the last election but the party favoured him. However, when he got to the Senate, he returned to his PDP family and started working against the party. He also supported Saraki against the interest of the party.

“When Tinubu convened a South-West meeting in Abuja during the height of the National Assembly crisis, Alasoadura came. However, Tinubu walked him out of the meeting and told his orderly to ensure that the senator was escorted off the premises.

“Tinubu also warned senators present to ensure that sensitive issues were not discussed in the presence of Alasoadura as he was an enemy within.”

Two days after the faceoff with Tinubu, however, the Ondo State senator issued a statement wherein he pledged his loyalty to the party and denied supporting Saraki.

Alasoadura said he was only working in the best interest of his constituents.

An APC leader, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, however, said that the fact that Alasoadura accompanied Saraki to the Code of Conduct Tribunal in solidarity on Tuesday, confirmed their suspicions.

He said the party would ensure that he remained irrelevant in the APC.

  1. Here we go again, if care is not taken acts like this will destroy APC. How can Tinubu be more powerful than elected senator in Caucus meeting of the party. So a whole senatorial district will be sidelined for not aligning with almighty Tinubu. Change indeed.

    1. Party Leader is powerful in the party than any political office holder. Political office holder like Senator is a floor Member of the party while Party Leader still remain the protocol head within the party.

    2. The party made him and now want to know more than the party.

  2. Here we go again, how can Tinubu have d right to sideline an elected Senator from the party's caucus meeting. So Tinubu now represents the party and anybody not aligned to him is against the party. Things like ds make mockery of the Change we have. I think we are getting too dogmatic about this change and we hardly see anything wrong in it. Everybody is entitled to his own opinion.

  7. When you have leader in your village, what does he do, ok he or she will just seat down like mumu abi ?
The problems most of you have is that, you don't know the functions of leadership in all it ramification. Presently Bola Ahmed Tinubu is well recognized leader of APC, take it or leave it. He has been tried under GEJ and was not found wanting. All of you shouting is born out of sentiment. Go to Lagos state his works speak for it self and also speak for the man.
When a person is more than you, kindly accept it period. Today who is the leader of pdp? tell us his past o! especially his or her contribution to his party and his state in particular.
Just because the internet look free to make comments, some of you will just open your smelling gutter mouth and call TINUBU'S name as if he is your father's mate.

    2. Very well said. Tinubu has made and uplifted more politicians to lime light than any other Yoruba Leader dead or alive. Party Leader is not a common politician least a man of Tinubu stature. JAGABAN himself.

  8. Tinubu should know his mates. Ondo and Ekiti States people have never been slaves to anyone. He should just play with his slaves and leave these guys alone. He will never penetrate these two states, they abhor slavery with passion. They are the pride of the Yoruba race.

  9. People shld be reasonable when talking. Can you allow a traitor in your camp. Those of you who are against the action of sending the alasoadura away should say amen to this prayer...May The good God bring those who betray and destroy the empire u contibute to build...Amen. Though alasoadura is entittled to his choice but there shld be a limit....Can Buhari take any personal action that is in the interest of Nigerian masses? I have said it APC made a mistake by allowing all those prostitute defectors to have mandates. they shld have allowed those core members. U can see how the idiots are ganging up.....bcos they all belong to PDP. So if their actions are not checked you may witness stalemate.......SKinnnnn

  10. The Jagaban made APC and he will destroy it as well. Power intoxicate, n absolute power intoxicate absolutely. Tinubu doesn't know he's making d opposition stronger cos the moment Saraki and his loyalist in APC cross carpet to PDP officially they (PDP) will become majority in the house. I think this APC will not last upto 4years. The Jagaban! I hail o

  11. I laugh O. Ha, Ha Ha. I think we can now see clearly the type of changed you have voted for. I leave the judgement to you. (Positive or negative change). I reserve my comment because I know we have lost our democracy. Expect more terrible things in the future. This is just the beginning.

  12. What is Tinubu's crime here? Afterall he's still d party leader n he has the interest of the party to protect from all pdp defectors. All I can say is that APC made a total mistake by given them membership ticket from d onset cos they don't have a loyal bone in them
