He acknowledged the importance of education, saying that his administration would give special attention to sector

“We inherited a rot in the sector but are trying to give it the attention it deserves because if you build the roads and the people are not educated, you have nothing,” he said.

Lalong promised to revisit the issue of amnesty, which nobody had been granted in past eight years in the state.

He said that he had asked the state Chief Judge to reintroduce the amnesty, so that those who deserved it would be pardoned.

Earlier, Miss Nenpan Zakka, Founder, City of Refuge, told the governor that they came to intimate him of their model of free education, designed by youths, for youths.

Zakka said that no school could boast of the number of teachers that City of Refuge had, pointing out that the teachers taught for free, while the students paid no school fees.

She said that in the 10 years of the special school, it graduated several sets of students who furthered their studies to degree level.

The founder said that through the goodwill of members of public, the school now had a permanent site.

She appealed to the governor to volunteer to teacher for free, and to also replicate the model to boost education in Plateau.
