The All Progressives Congress (APC) has admonished the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Olisa Metuh, to show some decorum in his public statements and avoid the use of trench language in public discourse.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Mr. Metuh’s increasing resort to the use of putrid language in his press statements is distracting from the message he might want to pass across, while at the same time sending a bad signal to the younger generation of Nigerians who look up to him and other politicians.
”Mr. Metuh, being the spokesman, first for a ruling party and now for the main opposition puts you on the rarefied level of a being a role model and a pace setter. You denigrate your office and your party when you use that platform to spew out hate and abusive words.
”You might choose to be bombastic, sharply critical and even aggressive in your statements, but you do not have to resort to the use of crude language like calling your fellow spokesman a ”renowned liar”, a ”master liar” or a ”shameless veteran” to make your point. Apart from distracting from the issues at stake, those words
reflect more on your personality than on the man you have chosen to skewer, and their vulgarity is stomach-churning,” it said.
The APC said every statement being issued today will become a reference material in the weeks, months and years ahead, hence the need to keep them decent, polished and dignifying, even when they are hard-hitting.
The party said it has chosen to call the PDP spokesman to order rather than reply him in kind, hoping he will see the reason for him not to continue on the path of profanity.
”After all, it was American religious leader Spencer W. Kimball who said ‘Profanity is the effort of a feeble brain to express itself forcibly’,” it said. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Our amiable Lai Mohammed we love you and the dignity you often add even when you speak to you opponent. Shameless are those who sell their birth right for a plate of porridge, in the name of belonging to a party called p*p. Remember the then chairman of the late party (PDP), Ogbulafor who after a plate of pouded yam and bush meat egusi soup, came out and told the world that pdp will rule Nigeria for 60yrs. Me think he was misquoted by the journalist, because 60 could sound like 16. I still dey laff.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure, you followed Lai Mohammed when he was the opposition spokesperson in his comments against the previous administration. Lai used uncouth, insultive and even worse than gutter language in attacking the previous administration, even to the extent of insulting the then President. As far as I am concerned, Lai has no moral standing to educate Metuh on how to address national issues. Now that he is the spokesperson for the ruling party, he now knows how it feels to use such language, instead of being courteous. What goes around, comes around. Lai should, therefore, stop complaining because that was his stock in trade as an opposition spokesperson. Metuh is far better than Lai in his choice of words in addressing issues since he became the opposition spokesperson. A really black pot should not call a kettle black.
DeleteMETU-PDP criticism of the ruling party has been nothing but dirty politics, just like Patrick Obhahiagbon would put it, it is becoming embarrassingly Odoriferous to hear cooked up allegations some of which are unimaginably non-existence, on a daily bases in the media about this new government. Before the demise of your party, you had 16years to make a difference you blew it, 16 more additional years would not yield any dividend from the way your party were out to ruin this nation, today you want PMB to turn around your 16years rot in 4 months; my advice to you is cut the noise we Nigerians are still watching the APC, We are going to give them time much more lesser than we gave your party the PDP, performance would keep them in power, if they dare follow your party footstep they face same Political extinction like your party, so please stop hurting your party more by this noise it won’t help you any jack……. We are wiser now causing, slander coming from your party members would not help you guys allow us Nigerians to be the judges like it’s done all over the world… presently Buhari is our president Jonathan and PDP was our very wrong past we don’t wish to remember, so allow us to assess PMB and the APC without prejudices such as yours on a daily bases
DeleteApc I hope u guys can see how painful it is wen u r abused....u did worst wen u were an opposition...so lai mohammed, pls stop deluding urself n wake up....PDP must speak,so shall everyone else...
