After her decision to skip the 2015 All Africa Games, the National Sports Commission and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria have placed a ban on sprinter, Blessing Okagbare; excluding her from representing the country, at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
Okagbare, had a dismal outing at the IAAF World championships in Beijing, China. She claimed that injury forced her out of the competition, where Nigerians expected her to win a medal having run the third fastest time of the season in the 100m.
After the Beijing meet, Okagbare told officials of the AFN not to expect her in Congo. But amazingly, she showed up in Zurich, full of life and energy. She ran 10.98 seconds in the Diamond League, much to the chagrin of athletics officials who gave her the benefit of the doubt because of her purported injury.
The NSC and the AFN examined the circumstances bordering her decision to dock the AAG, and came to the conclusion to deny the athlete any chance of appearing in next year’s Olympics. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

This is gross and unpatriotic!!! Good sanction I must say.
ReplyDeleteWhy place a ban on her? Even if she is at Rio 2015, she will still come in last in any discipline she will participate. She is liken to Asafa Powell of Jamaica, who always fumble at world stage. Name for only diamond league meetings them sabi run.
ReplyDeleteShe just got married. Have they done a pregnancy test on her? Secondly, you can take a horse to the water but not force it to drink. NSC & co. are just naive. This is a young lady that has been doing us proud. Somebody has to help her. Find out what may have gone wrong. Nobody likes losing. The ban is just comic to me.
ReplyDeleteDoes Nigeria pay her to compete? She has put nigeri's name on the map in the athletic world but now you want to punish her because she wants to take a break before the olympics in Brazil? So what if she skips the All Africa games? It is a terrible decision to prevent her from competing in the olympic games. The real loser is Nigeria, not the athlete. Who is the empty head that made this decision?
ReplyDeleteLiar, do investigation before rushing to publish your article(s). She has represented her father land well
