I slept on bare floor for four days – Falae

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, has revealed that he slept on bare floor for four days that he spent in kidnappers den.

Falae, who was released on Thursday, four days after being allegedly kidnapped by some Fulani herdsmen on his farm in Ilado village, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, said it was a hell being in the kidnappers' den.

In his discussion with the state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who paid him a visit at his Oba Ile residence, the former finance minister recalled that when he told the kidnappers that his family could raise N2m against the N100m the abductors demanded, they rejected it.

He said the kidnappers told him, "Is it Boko Haram you are giving N2m to?"

After being released, it was gathered that the Septuagenarian trekked several kilometers from his farm to a hotel in Owo town, where he met with the security agents that took him home.

It was like a biblical triumphant entry for the elder statesman as he was cheered by scores of his friends, family and residents of Ilu Abo town, where he is a traditional ruler, as they sang and danced to mark the return of their patriarch.

Attempts of journalists to speak with Falae were scuttled by his hostile children, who kept saying, "Go back, baba wants to rest. He cannot talk to you now, go back."

Looking weary and frail, the former minister arrived his home at about 4.45pm in company with the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase; the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Mrs. Kalafite Adeyemi; and the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mike Ogbodu, among others.

Speaking with journalists on the release of the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Arase, who was reportedly directed to move to the state on the instruction of President Muhammadu Buhari to secure Falae's release, said he was happy that the septuagenarian was rescued alive and in good health.

The IGP, who refused to talk about how the rescue mission was carried out, stated, "I can not tell you, this is not for you; it is purely security matter, but I am happy he is rescued alive."
