Do not accept Governor Fayose's food, rams - Imams tell Ekiti muslims

The League of Imams and Alfas in Ekiti has ordered Muslims in the state not to collect rams and other food items for Sallah celebration, if presented to them in any form by the state government.

The league reached the decision at a meeting held on Tuesday at Ansar-u-deen Society Central Mosque Odo – Otu, Ado Ekiti, where it reviewed the “deliberate marginalisation of Muslims in Ekiti State government political appointment.”

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and National Council of Muslim Youth Organisation, Ekiti State, had respectively issued statements condemning Governor Ayodele Fayose for neglecting Muslims in appointments.

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, had also described “Fayose’s treatment of Muslims in terms of appointment in the state” as “the worst since the state was created.”

The party claimed Ekiti muslims were not given up to one percent of the appointments made by the Fayose administration.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the league said, “Based on the above, the League, Ekiti State Council hereby resolve that: No Muslim in the State should collect rams and other food items if presented to them in any form by the government.

The communique was signed by the state’s Assistant Secretary, League of Imams and Alfas, Alhaji Quadri Oguntuase; a Representative of Ansar-u-deen Missioner, Fatai Jimoh and Chief Imam, Ilogbo, Imam Abdul Rasak.

  1. I am no supporter of Fayose. But it is nonsense for a state government to be giving rams and foodstuffs bought with taxpayers' money on religious occasions. Governments throughout the country should stop such practice, including involvement in pilgrimages.

  2. Imams should not be found giving instructions that divide more than the ones that unite. What is the difference between the Imams and Gov. Fayose if they tell their followers to boycott the Gov's gifts because of perceived grievance. Please our religious leaders should be on watch because this is how it all begins.

  3. Yeye talk by Religious Leaders, this is absorb and totally become imbued for religious Leaders to create enmity and poisoning the mind of their followers towards the government of their own state where more than 40% of their members are workers in government parastatal. This religious Leaders should check mate their language to avoid religious crisis in Ekiti state. Note Ekiti is not a Muslim state neither does it belong to any religious sect, so therefore religious is a thing of mind ....i.e. you and your God and should not be tie to any Political appointment.....How many Pentecostal Christian or Jehovah Witness Members are in position of Authority .....stop this imbroglio

    2. They are jus trying to cause unconstitutional fight. B'cos d constitution does not obligate any governor to appoint any number of christians/muslims. How many christians get appointnent in kwara state? Yet no one is shouting to some people to protest. Let us not be misled

  6. I will like the Christians to see that they are the ones quiet always and they are more than marginalised in in States with Muslin leadership. Although the manner of complaint by incitement like the Imams do is quite bad.
