Boko Haram insurgents have attacked two remote Borno villages of Kolori and Ba’ana Imam on horseback, killing 26 persons and injuring several others.
A leader of the youth vigilance group in Biu town, who spoke on condition on anonymity to our correspondents on the telephone on Wednesday, said the attacks on the villages, which are in Damboa Local Government Area happened on Monday night.
According to him, many of the villagers fled to Biu on Tuesday, a day after the attack.
He said on the telephone, “The attack occurred on Monday evening. Some Boko Haram rode to Kolori on horses at about 5.35pm and were firing at residents and shooting into houses.
“Accounts from the people that fled to Biu showed that 18 persons were killed at Kolori and eight killed at Ba’ana Imam village. More than 12 people were said to be injured.
“We were equally told that the insurgents carted away foodstuffs, livestocks and looted their houses of other essential goods.”
It was learnt that some of the fleeing residents of the two communities went into an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Biu for refuge.
This could not, however, be confirmed from the North-East office of the National Emergency Management Agency in Maiduguri at the time of filing this report.
Damboa Local Government Area has been frequently attacked by the insurgents, who are holed inside Sambisa Forest as the council shares borders with the dreaded forest. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
