Women from states in the Niger Delta on Thursday protested the continued detention and harassment of the Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Gesila Khan.
The women who protested in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, said the incarceration of Khan was an affront to mothers and women, alleging that men of the Department of State Security had been harassing the REC.
The protesting women, under the aegis of the Niger Delta Women for Peace and Development, however, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the matter.
The women, armed with placards with inscriptions, ‘Buhari! Don’t allow DSS violate right of women’, ‘The detention of Khan is a war against Nigerian Mothers’ and “Free Khan Now or Face curses from Nigerian mothers’ condemned the arrest and detention of Khan.
The leader of the group, Mrs. Grace Amabo, said the continued detention of Khan was creating a bad image for the Buhari administration.
Amabo said the arrest was an affront to issues of gender equality and women’s rights.
She said, “The continued arrest is an affront to Nigerian women and the Niger Delta people. It also violates the right of women in public office as enshrined in the Beijing Convention on Gender Equality.
“Her continued incarceration by the DSS in Abuja is biased, selective and having tribal connotations to witch-hunt and blackmail our revered daughter who has meritoriously served the nation. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Foolish ashawo women who does not know what they want I life. Always supporting bad things in the land. If a man can go to jail, a woman can also die in jail better, provided she 'merit' the jail terms.
ReplyDeleteThis idiots should grow up from their sentiments.
When Alayesiga the then governor of that same state stole their money, what was their reaction, non instead he was given red carpet on his return from where he went to keep the stolen money.
It is a shame that some so called women in black are protesting out of ignorance. They are in black, no wonder they still live in dark age. All of them have been fucked by their enemies. Shameless idiots.
Achori itvis within their right to protest. They didn't violate any law by protesting. You don't need to go lowly by insulting them for exercising their right. Some of them could be you mother, sister and aisters in law you know
DeleteWhy the DSS and not the Nigerian police?. Is it the duty of the DSS to investigate election issues, what is the police going to do?. The DSS boss just want to impress President Buhari but rather he is rediculing him and condemning him the eyes of Nigerians and international communities. This action should be condemned by all well thinking people. This is an abuse of right
ReplyDeleteIf she is truly guilty of the allegations against her which i am very sure of then is a curse on the protesting women for supporting illegality and bad conduct. Let he pay for what she has done. Nemesis
ReplyDeleteWhat is left is for DSS to start mounting road blocks and escorting monies in bullion vans.
ReplyDeleteShe has so much money (millions) in her account than a civil servant should have, and she told GEJ that she is ready to die for him, so please hired women leave her to die in jail for GEJ.
ReplyDeleteWhy are people so daft that they reason with their anus! Are we in a banana republic? Our extant laws prescribe a time frame for which one can be detained except such detention is authorized by a competent court. I am not a sympathizer of the REC but I believe in rule of law. If the DSS has any case against her then let them charge her to court. Her continuous detention is an abused of her fundamental human right and also illegal. We must condemn impunity in this land. Who knows tomorrow it could be you or worse still your mother.
ReplyDeletethat is if you or your mother stole or have money that came from the Nigerian treasury.
DeleteI laugh at Niger deltans...poor people that are always behind their corrupt leaders!next thing is for their youths to leave the region for lagos or SW in search of better life.if we r that stupid in SW,do you think lagos or SW will be like this?
ReplyDeleteWhat does the law say abt such detention? Continued detention of Mrs Khan is an abuse. If they ve enough proof against her then she shld be charged to court. DSS is not the law in Nigeria we ve a constitution. For those of you calling the women harlot, it takes the bastard son of a prostitute to know a prostitute.
ReplyDeleteWell said! Many who comment do in ignorance. The issue at stake is about the rule of law! And some ignorant people are just chasing shadows and raining abuses on themselves.
