'Start your anti-corruption fight by probing those that sponsored your election - Fayose tells Buhari

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to start his anti-corruption fight by probing those that sponsored his election to reveal their sources of income.

Fayose said, “Some of those who sponsored the President’s election have not done any other jobs apart from holding public offices. Yet, they provided private jets and funds with which the President campaigned across the length and breadth of Nigeria. He should let Nigerians know where they got money to buy private jets and the several billions of naira spent on his election.

“No one sits with corruption to fight corruption because as it is today, President Buhari is sitting among corrupt people and he must first extricate himself from the comity of corruption”.

Fayose, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, on Wednesday took a swipe at the Federal Government anti-corruption drive, describing it as mere noise-making, witch-hunt and diversionary tactic to hoodwink the public into overlooking the seeming failure of the government to deliver on its electoral promises.

The governor said, “If President Mohammadu Buhari knows exactly where the stolen funds are kept and who looted the funds, he does not need all these public announcements. Rather, he should make public names of the looters and bring back the purported stolen funds, location of which he has identified. It is when he is able to bring back the money that he should make announcements of recovered funds.

“You don’t announce a process to the public; rather, you announce the results because that is what is of interest to the people. It is like you are announcing that you know where armed robbers reside, won’t they change their location?

“What the All Progressives Congress spin-doctors and their collaborators in the Presidency are doing is simple. It is such that when there is nothing to tell the people as per the rising Boko Haram attacks, dollar and other foreign currencies exchange rates, petrol pump price and other seeming failed promises of the APC Federal Government, they will accuse former President Goodluck Jonathan and his men of corruption, insult Peoples Democratic Party and make noise about fighting corruption.”

He said President Buhari and his men should know that Nigeria of today is different from that of 1983 and that unlike 1983, nothing could prevent them from asking questions.

“Mr. President and his men should know that these planned efforts to brand PDP as a party of corrupt people and suppress the giant strides of the Jonathan administration won’t work because Nigerians know that APC is peopled with more corrupt people and the President must treat the issue of corruption without looking at political parties.”

  1. Fayose bravo!!!, they claim u r a noise maker without realizing that ur noise mäkin is Notin but d truth. I hav said similar tin b4, if Burahi want to prove to Nigerians dat he wants to fight corruption let him start frm those that sponsored his election or majority of d APC members bc we kn them all. I can remember vividly in his campaign when he visited IMO State based on d governor's visitation to commission his house, Buhari told d governor dat he is corrupt. He asked d governor where did he get d money as a people servant to build that kind of house. Was he nt d governor among d delegations wit Buhari to US, so many of them r paradin theirselves as saints today. Charity they said begins at home

    1. You're spot-on. It is only the guilty that keeps telling the investigator to start investigation from someone else. Buhari can start from anywhere and I think he should start with those who looted our treasury, depleting our reserves from $67billion to $29billion within 6 years and emasculating our currency. Fayose and his allies and cohorts should stop telling the President where investigation should start from. If they have a clean conscience, they should relax!

    2. and why can he not start it from inception of democratic rules?, why did you linit it to 6 years?. No one syas he should not start it but why limiting it to just Jonathan's administration. If he is bold enough, let him start it at least from the inception of democratic governance, if he is afrais to probe from Babangida era. So I rule you out of order, the commentator is not spot-on!

    3. anonymous 6:36, I think the question should be: why should Buhari start from 1999; were there not people (presidents) that took over from the out-gone ones? Why did the last administration not probe it's predecessor(s)? Was there any constitutional barricade that stopped them?If you can attempt these questions(not necessarily answer them satisfactorily), then you will be seen as making a point Buhari should not limit his probe to the last six years.

    4. Current Administrations should focus on the job they have, rather than going out on a witch hunt against previous administrations that is why the Jonathan Admin was focused on thier job not probing past administrations, we are not saying he can not check the irregularities of the past government, but he should not make that his major focus.

First cos doing that won't create any difference in my opinion. He should focus on developing structural developmental instruments and sytems along with the right economic, social and political infrastructures that support clarity and efficiency. Carrying out projects that will actually bring development, Obama inherited debts in Trillions of dollars you don't see him going after Bush.

Secondly if he is to probe it should not have all the publicity it currently does but work to bringing this money back, only then can he tell us who stole how much, how much they recovered, and how this money is going to be used to improve the nation.

Don't get me wrong i think President Buhari is already doing a great job by the way, but sometimes people do lose focus

  9. Truth they say is bitter. Charity they say begins at home. Let PMB begin the corruption fight from his party APC then to other people. For now it looks as if the essence of coming into governance is to fight GEJ. Corruption did not start with GEJ, It is as old as Nigerian leadership. If we must fight corruption retrospectively, GEJ's administration may be a tip of the iceberg.

  10. Well said. Rottinmeat ameachi invested billions into mr president campaign moves. The question is where did he amass such wealth from. His salary for the past 16 years in governance is it worth billions. The masses are just being deceived. I know one day the masses would rise up to it calls like it happened in egypt. God bless good citizens of nigeria.

  12. Nigerians should be thankful to whoever sponsored Buhari to office, if there is anyone at all. Logic tells any sensible person that no corrupt person will sponsor such a man to becoming the president of this country as that would be suicidal.

  16. Three truth about GMB govt is to restore power to the north with greater inclination to the Muslims. The question of corruption, fiscal federation. diversification of economy are secondary. Those who sponsored GMB are the most corrupt Nigerians afterall "#River people know I don't like money "

  20. God can use Satan to deliver Nigerians from Satan's bondage. If Fayose has evidence of corruption against any of PMB's sponsors, he should avail it to the presidency and see whether action would not be taken against them. The corruption of Buhari's supporters cannot be a justification for the brazen stealing of our common wealth by PDP under Jonathan in particular. Baba should go on with the excellent work he has been doing so far. The masses are behind him solidly.

    1. What evidence are you writing about? Truth is the kind of monies that go around during electioneering in Nigeria are mostly public looted funds. I will believe you only when the Adenuga's,Dangote's and the like sponsor elections and not the Tinubu's and Ameachi's of this world period.

  21. I am happy that all defending the pdp agreed that there is curruption but to start somewhere..

  22. Agreed, corruption is as old as the nation itself; if we are to draw the graph of corruption for a period of fifty years in Nigeria the first thirty will present a gradual rise in slope while the next twenty shows a very steep slope. Think of the facilities available in those days, good postal system,railway,pipe-borne water, even electricity was better than what we have today. Now think of the many projects that have been made extinct,e.g. Ajaokuta steel industry- all through corruption.
So,Mr Fayose and Associates if the law pounces on you today do not think your foes will escape tomorrow. Let us wait and see how God is going to use Buhari's administration. May God help us.

  23. The worst criminals are current working with Buhari.Bola Tunibu and Rotimi Ameachi are the worst criminals in that group. Ameachi never worked anywhere in his life before going into politics so where did he get such huge amount of money to sponsor Buhari, buy private jets and skyscrapers and refineries outside the country.
Tunibu on the other hand owns 95% properties in Lagos, stole almost all the tax money generated by the state government.

    2. but the EFCC under GEJ questioned Tinubu and cleared him of all charges, i think you know that? If GEJ regime had anything incriminating on Tinubu they would have used it to destroy him knowing he was the biggest threat to their remaining in office as he is credited for mid-wifing the collaboration that ending their dreams of ruling for 60 years unless they don't know what they were doing.

  24. Fayose is making sense but he should not pass his boundary. This administration is not up to 100 days and I do not know the cause of this hues and cries. I remember the parable of two hunters that went hunting at the wee hours of the night. One of them killed an antelope and the other did not kill any animal. When they got back to their camp, the unsuccessful hunter told his wife that my colleague killed a small animal. This is the case of PDP & APC and we are watching from the sideline.

  25. PMB has 10 children all ar studying abroad He told Nigerians dat He got a loan frm de bnk to Run Election .... does he also collect loan to train his children ? He had a case wt PTF fund when he was there....But St OBJ...told nigerians dat he was innocent ..Amaechi loots Rivers money to sponsor him today Rumour has it dat he is going to make him SSG or Petroleum Minister after reshuffling de 1st one Who then is Corrupt...Pots always calling kettle Black...

  26. My people Rivers state does not measure up to standard internationally when you talk of an oil rich states. Amaechi used funds he was supposed to utilize in developing rivers state to fund PMB so he could escape GEJ arrests . He amaechi confirmed prior to now that if GEJ had won he was going to be in deep mess. I think Amaechi had received presidential pardon or sort of MOU from PMB before the elections that is why PMB can not and will not probe APC thieves. Look at it you cant probe Rochas who massively campaigned for PMB in the east. You cant probe Tinubu who did same in the west or Amaechi who was bent on selling off is Niger Deltan Brother. My people politics is business. There are but a few committed self willed leaders in Nigeria but I forsee an upcoming generation who will change the tide but first and foremost all this BABA must clear off i pray that after PMB who should not have any BABA as president.if its about probe only the current opposition will be probed. Though Fayose has said the truth but he should forget it that PMB will break his agreements with the likes of Tinubu Amaechi and Rochas.
