The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rivers State chapter said leaders of the All Progressives Congress, such as Mr. Dakuku Peterside, the governorship candidate and Senator Magnus Abe should stop embarrassing the state.
Peterside and Abe were among the APC leaders who staged a protest against the refusal of the Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gesila Khan, to make available for inspection, the election materials used in the 11 April governorship election, as ordered by the tribunal.
But the protest at the INEC Headquarters in Abuja ended in a fiasco: they were teargassed after they refused to send three representatives to meet the INEC, acting chairman, Amina Bala Zakari.
PDP described the protest as ‘touting’ by otherwise respectable people.
The party in a statement today urged the APC leaders not to regard a lost election as “the end of life”.
The party claimed that the protest confirmed that ” Mr. Dakuku and his party men are irresponsible, desperate, frustrated, losing grip of events and have therefore, resorted to civil disturbance.”
The party said it considered “this particular action and many others by the APC leaders as undeserving, unwarranted noise making and much ado without nothing necessitating it.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
