PDP chief faults Fayose over PDP Chairman

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Afoke Okporua, has opposed the call by Governor Ayodele Fayose, that the South West should produce the next National Chairman of the party.

The governor after receiving a former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed, on Sunday had said it was the turn of the region to produce the chairman since presidency would return to the North in the next general election.

Fayose also said Prince Uche Secondus caretaker committee should be allowed to take charge for the next five months to conclude the on-going reorganisation in the party.

But Okporua in a statement made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday said the North-East must retain the chairmanship slot to prevent the party from further ruins, adding that “Secondus must revert to his position as National Deputy Chairman without further delay.”

The former member of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation said, “I dare ask, is Governor Fayose oblivious of the PDP constitution that allows a caretaker committee to function for a maximum of three months?

“Has Governor Fayose forgotten that unrealistic positions such as the one he said during Bala’s visit was partly responsible for the bad blood that led to the defeat the PDP suffered in the March 28th Presidential election?

“Also, did Governor Fayose consider the fact that if the North-East is denied their legitimate slot of the Chairmanship, the Party will be in jeopardy and further ruin ahead of 2019.”

“There is nothing new he (Secondus) can spring forth in terms of re-positioning, re-structuring and reorganising of the party ahead of 2019 as he was part of the NWC that midwived the Party into her worst ever political fortune.

Okporua added that since Secondus assumed office as Acting National Chairman, nothing inspiring had happened to the PDP.

“The who is who in the Party left for the APC in Bayelsa State under his watch, Uche Secondus has not made any reasonable comment on state of affairs in the country. He has not visited any State. Rather, it has been a tale of squandered resources and constant depleting of the Party.”
