OAU Warns Students To Remain Indoors For Ooni's Funeral Rites

In a circular issued to students of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, the management of the university reminded all the students to remain indoors tomorrow as the palace prepares its traditional rites to formally announce the death of the Ooni of Ife Oba Sijuwade.

It can be recalled that The Ife Council of Chiefs yesterday also warned all residents in Ile Ife of the in Osun state to remain indoors tomorrow between 9am and 5pm.

A traditional ruler, the Awara of Iwara-Ife, Oba Layi Adereti, who is also the head of the Oro cult, gave the warning yesterday.

He said the death of the Ooni would be formally announced tomorrow.

Oba Adereti said all residents of the town, whether male or female, must remain indoors during the rites. He said after the announcement of the death, certain rites would be performed, adding that the restriction order was from the palace and appealed to all residents to heed the warning.

“This is an official announcement from the palace of the Awara of Iwara-Ife who is the head of the Oro deity. On Wednesday the 12th of August 2015, there will be an official proclamation of the demise of the Ooni of Ife. The proclamation will be made public during the Oro festival, being the final rites on the demise of the Ooni.

“Residents are therefore urged to keep away from the streets between 9am and 4pm during which the deity will be out. With this announcement, people are advised to stay in-doors”, he said.

  2. So the unrealistic chiefs who says they are the custodian of traditional beliefs have finally woken from their slumber. I guess they were chanting incantations on the lifeless body of the late ooni of Ife, thinking their gods would resuscitate him. Instead of them admitting failure, they now wants to tell people he died yesterday abi? Tradition my foot, now some innocent souls must have been sent to untimely death to finalise his demise. A word for those chiefs who are heading to hell if they do not repent of their idolatry practices, the last time I was the ooni in his convoy, about three weeks ago on his way to London hospital, I was saw the plate number of his limousine bearing "Aanuoluwapo" meaning "the mercy of the Lord is too much" an indication that the man may have repented before he died while his chiefs are still heading different direction. I thought they should cover their faces in shame now to tell the world they were lying to preserve satanic funeral rites.
