Mr Ibrahim Baba, on Tuesday, retired as the Post Master General of the Federation from the Nigeria Postal Service.
Baba told journalists in Abuja that non- usage of postage stamps by financial institutions made the country to lose N1trillion every year.
Baba stated that NIPOST, under his leadership, was able to intercept 258,207 scam mails worth N125.2 billion between 2006 and 2014.
“NIPOST was able to intercept the fraudulent documents through collaboration with security agencies like the Nigeria Police and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’’, he said.
He added that NIPOST also collaborated with National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Department of State Service, Nigerian Customs Service and the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom.
According to him, ICT is not a threat to NIPOST but rather a blessing as it is impacting positively on postal operations and services.
“Our desire to make the post office a one-stop shop motivated us to adopt new technologies to enhance postal operations in terms of speed and efficiency in service delivery.
“It is also a means of capturing new business opportunities provided by e-commerce and other electronic and financial services’’, he said.
Baba added that 70% of post offices across the country had been equipped with ICT facilities, including track and trace features. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
