The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Friday assured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari’s political appointments will balance out very soon.
Adesina spoke while featuring on a radio programme, Political Platform, on RayPower 100.5FM, monitored by our correspondent.
He was reacting to criticisms that have trailed the President’s appointments, which are believed to favour the Northern part of the country.
Adesina said the President was aware of federal character and expressed the believe that there would be balance by the time he made more appointments in September.
While saying appointments were Buhari’s prerogative, the presidential spokesman also said nobody can fault the fact that those named so far were appointed on merits.
He also said it would not be fair for the President to be blamed for positions that were filled as a result of elections, like those of the National Assembly and appointments made as a result of next in command, like those of the acting Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission and that of the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
He assured all stakeholders that the President would keep to his promise of appointing the remaining aides and ministers in September.
Adesina said, “Nobody can fault the fact that the persons appointed were appointed on merits.
“In terms of the spread, the President has prerogative to appoint and he knows there is federal character. I am sure that there will be balance in the future. These are still early days. At the end of the day, we will have a balance.
“By the time more appointments are made, it will balance out. The President is trying to get the very best of Nigerians. The issue of key positions and no key positions should not be the issue.
“He gave a deadline of September for the appointment of ministers and he will keep to it.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

All I can say is that if you go to Jonathon's village or clans today you will see enough poor people there not to talk about Obasanjo and their likes. We should embrace change and be patient to see what this cabinet will do, after all will travel out of this country alot and we do not have our kinsmen installed in any place of authority there but we still enjoy what they offer us and that is why we keep going there, sending our children there even when we don't provide guidance for the teen-agers we sent there. So, lets take it easy and give peace a chance.
DeleteGEJ please come back
ReplyDeleteGod forbid how can unfocused, corrupt leader can rule Nigeria again. you are too envy and ignorant of Nigeria.
DeleteYou think this one is not corrupt abi? With Tinubu and Ameachi as funders? APC Propoganda is giving you malaria
DeleteJonathan can only come back in your nightmare. Retard.
DeleteFools, leave PMB alone joor, he is the president and can decide to do whatever that would bring progress to the Nation. Igbo idiots and your selfish interest, your olodo GEJ spend years and did nothing. Now, someone is here to do what is right, and yet you are complaining with your myopic thoughts and empty brains. Mumus
ReplyDeleteStupid Aboki you have the effrontery to call Igbos idiots in public? Where in this world have you had of an outstanding performance of any Abokis? Have you not had that the best graduated student in an Oxford University so far is an Igbo man by name Osita Onuma? Have not had that the person that discovered internet which you mumu is using today to insult Igbos is an Igbo man? I don't want to tell you more about Igbos go and ask your papa to educate you more about Igbos. The reason why Nigerians don't want Igbos to secede is because of how intelligent and resourceful they are in terms of economic development. Anytime Igbos secede from Nigeria the country will collapse.
DeleteSo stop talking rush my Aboki. You suppose to know by now that Buhari is an ethnic bigot. He has already given the key positions to the northerners so we don't expect any other balancing of appointment any longer.
Guy be there talking about what others have achieved. What have you achieved other than making so much noise. I wish you all ethnic bigots would just shut up and for once try to act like a united Nigeria. I don't give a hoot if all the appointees come from Kilimanjaro as long as we have a good and credible government that delivers dividends of democracy that are physically verifiable and not on pages of newspapers.
DeleteRubbish wis balance? Am happy u new wat He has done so far is imbalance
ReplyDeleteNa the begining be this una never see any thing yet
ReplyDeleteI guess the majority of people complaining here are from the South East. I would have said I understand, but then that will be indulging those of them who think like that.
ReplyDeleteListen you guys didnt vote for this man nao and you expect him to give you important positions? You guys must be outta your mind. Yes he will appoint people from the South East but lets be practical, those positions will be non critical positions, I assure you.
When GEJ refused to appoint any South West person in any critical position for over three years did the Yorubas complain? Even when they complained was it not the greedy PDP amongst them who did? This was even when the Yorubas voted overwhelmingly for him o
Our South East Brothers just need to be patient their time will come. dem too dey complain sef
And SW? What if SS vote to keep thier oil? Don't be silly. Awoof dey run belle oh
DeleteAnony 1.20am. You are a monumental fool. With your oil , 75% of your people are militants and bunkers, your elders have failed in thier responsibilities, they have sold you out and the youth amongst you are brainless. Even with your huge monthly allocations, your governors refused to develop your region, even with the so called Ministry of Niger delta and NDDC, your region is still left behind because of corrupt people from your region. Blame your elders for your woes and Jonothing. God bless Saro Wiwa, he was the only sane person that came out from that region. Buhari can not solve your problem. Look within miscreant.
DeleteGod pls help Nigeria.Amen
ReplyDeleteIf my home town man was appointed into a position, of what importance is it to me? Well, I prefer any Nigerian from any part of the country who is patriotic and ready to work with this present govt to bring the needed change. This is how I can benefit and not by clamouring for a man from my tribe who will only focus on his selfish needs.
ReplyDeleteWhy are these complain. Nigerian should be sensitive enough enough to know somebody that is ready to put thing right. Sensitive position should be merit nt by sentiment. Somebody is calling the passed corrupt leader to rule us again, we need progress allow PMB to continue is good work.
ReplyDeleteFormer President Olusegun Obasanjo is watching!
ReplyDeleteGive Buhari time.
ReplyDeleteCan we look back and see what tribalism and federal character has done to this country. .. Those days with your high score in Jamb you won't get university admission, because of federal character or sharing formulary. ..can't we just but sentiment aside and support this government. ..We should remember that the success of this government rest sole on the president. Everyone is talking about GEJ today not about his ministers. My advice to those ethnic bigot is wait for your time , when you become president, you can put your enemy in sensitive position to satisfy some people or region or ethnic or federal character or sharing formulary. What we need now are committed individual to move the country forward..
ReplyDeleteThose ctitisicing buhari are fools and they dont know the nigerian constitution. Question people should ask is does buhari has cinstitutional right to do what he has done? Answer is yes. This recent appointment has nothing to do with federal character. He is only picking those he knows he can work with.
ReplyDeleteAll this insult because of Niger Delta oil?
ReplyDeleteI coined a new term for the expectations of those Nigerians who refuse to calm down and who expect Buhari to have some crazy selection system in place to fill ministerial and executive openings . . . they expect Buhari to have, what I call, a "pseudo-democratic calculus" in place, to utilize in selecting his ministerial and executive appointees based on a warped perception of what "federal character" means in the Nigerian Constitution. Somebody asked me what "pseudo-democratic calculus" means, and I responded that it was a bogus selection system based on the belief that every appointment that Buhari makes has to be "democratic." My take is that the democratic exercise ended after more than 50% of Nigerians voted for Buhari and gave HIM the mandate to be Chief Executive. The democratic exercise is presently in RECESS till the NEXT elections! WHAT Buhari does from HIS first day in office, is HIS own business! HOW he does it, is HIS own business and people should stop trying to direct or influence HIS thinking and thoughts on how HE will fix the mess Nigeria is in. Nigerians should remember that Buhari once ran one of the BEST economies in the world at one time . . . only Olodumare knows how well off Nigeria would have been today IF Buhari had not fallen victim to a coup by the creators of the MASSIVE corruption that has brought Nigeria to its knees, today! My conclusion? Buhari can fill all the remaining positions with Babalawos from the south or Mallams from the north for all I care. As long as they ALL do an excellent job for ALL Nigerians and ensure that Nigeria does NOT become a failed state. THAT is/will be the TRUE spirit of the "federal character" everyone seems to have a misconception about. The OUTCOME!!! That is the main focus of "federal character" as entrenched in the Nigerian Constitution.
