Nigerians fairing better under Buhari, says Oshiomhole

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday said Nigerians are fairing better under the President Muhammad Buhari's  administration.

The governor noted that in less than three months of the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government, Nigerians had begun to feel the impact of the Buhari's leadership style.

"I understand now that electricity suppy is stable. It is just the fear of Buhari that leads to the stability of power," Oshiomhole said at the 27 Annual Education conference of the textile workers in Kaduna.
The conference has as its theme 'Buhari administration: revival of the textile industry and employment creation'.

He noted that the Federal Capital Territory that was noted for darkness because the "street lights" were not functioning, was now aglow with lights at night.

This, he noted, was because it was no longer business as usual.

"I am now a proud Nigerian. The street lights(FCT) before now are not functioning but immediately Buhari was sworn-in, the light came up. There is hope for Nigerians under President Buhari," he added.

The governor called on the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress to come out of its crisis to support the government of Buhari in order to move the country forward economically.

Oshiomhole noted that the problem of the collapse textile industry was not as result of funding but policy somersault on the part of the previous government and high level of corruption.

According to him, the industry needs coherent policy, noting that with Buhari at the helm of affairs, the wrongs of the past will be addressed.

He warned the Nigerian Customs that this was not the right time for them to aide smugglers, as according him, "President Buhari will deal seriously if they (Customs) collude with smugglers."
His Kaduna State counterpart, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, said on the occasion that that the state was the first state in Nigeria to have a city plan, fashioned after the textile city of Manchester, in the United Kingdom.

"In July, 1917, Frederick Lugard designed the first master plan of Kaduna and his plan was to make Kaduna another Manchester of Nigeria and the hub of textiles," he said.

El-Rufai said he was committed to the revival of the textile industry in the state.
"Anybody who stands against our resolve to revive this sector, we will deal with him," the governor added.

He said the 25 Mega Watts electricity generation from the Gurrara Dam would be dedicated to industries in the , urging the Federal Government to speedily complete the Kudenda Power plant for the same purpose.

Meanwhile, the National President of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, Comrade Oladele Hunsu, said no fewer than 120,000 Nigerians lost their jobs as a result of closure of textiles industries across the country.

  1. We still hoping Nigerians will fare better. But for now, prices of things especially food has simply increased unacceptably.
We are hoping for a reversal otherwise, I don't see how we have fared better

  4. A sycophant, nobody knew that all he was doing when he was heading the Labor Union was a mere gimmick. He stays in Benin enjoying in his double standard mode and now vouching for over 150 million people all over Nigeria only to expose his callousness. What is his index of better life for these other Nigerians? He thinks he could easily cajole a disciplinarian such as President Buhari.
