Kogi governor, Idris Wada boasts - 'Buhari's popularity will not help APC win in Kogi governorship election'

Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, has said the popularity of President Muhammadu Buhari will not help the All Progressives Congress in the November 21 governorship election in the state.

Wada, who spoke with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, when he visited the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party to pay for his nomination form, insisted that his party remains the most popular party in the state.

He said there was no doubt that President Buhari’s popularity had impact on the last general elections, but insisted that the PDP still had good performance in the state.

He said, “You could observe that while Buhari won the presidential election in Kogi state, PDP clearly won the state assembly positions. That shows that PDP is clearly on the ground in the state.

“You can see the number of people that came here to support me, I did not invite anybody, that shows that the PDP is alive in Kogi. By the grace of God, we will win the forthcoming election.

“No doubt, having the APC president will have impact on the election, I am confident that our people will vote massively for PDP. Definitely, Buhari’s popularity won’t help the APC.”

Wada said he was not disturbed by the party’s decision not to offer automatic ticket to him, adding that there was no provision for automatic ticket in the party’s constitution

He gave reasons why he said the PDP refused to give him automatic ticket to stand as its governorship candidate for the primary, which holds in September.

Wada said there was no provision for authomatic ticket for siting governors in the party’s constitution.

  1. we shall see. If PDP believe power should not shift to the central or west senatorial district of KOGI state then there shall be no PDP again. Again we are waiting for APC to see who clinch their ticket. If both parties decided to field somebody from Kogi east, then peace shall elude the state forever. Nobody is a slave to another. The east never contributed to the creation of the state. They were looking for Okura state then while the Ebiras and Okuns agitated for Kogi state and they got it. Since the creation of the state the east had been ruling the state anyhow and they believe others are their slave, the state shall soon explode. Peace we know only exist where equity, fairness, good governance and respect for each order are allow to thrive.
