Shops owners at the Ilesa main market are counting their losses following an outbreak of fire in the market.
A resident of the area, Damilola Oladele, who is a student of University of Ibadan Study Centre in Ilesa, told our correspondent on the telephone that the fire which started around 7pm was still raging by 8:45pm.
Oladele said the fire started at the section of those selling clothes.
She said despite the proximity of the fire brigade station in the town to the scene of the inferno, firefighters were able to bring it under control almost two hours after it started.
The scene was flooded with sympathisers who trooped to the market to help put out the fire and to salvage some property.
She said, “I learnt that the fire started at the section of those selling clothes. It is massive. Firefighters are there but they have not been able to bring it under control.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
