The management of Diamond Bank Plc. has apologized to former House of Representatives member, Abike Dabiri-Erewa for naming her as one of its chronic debtors.
The bank had published the list of debtors following a Central Bank directive and had named Mrs Dabiri-Erewa as a Director of Thriller Endeavours Ltd, a company which was said to be owing N122 million.
The former lawmaker denied the reports via Twitter and proceeded to sue both Diamond Bank and Punch Newspaper, which had put a photo of Mrs Dabiri-Erewa in an article about the issue on its website.
The apology from the bank was contained in today’s edition of Punch.
“The inclusion of the name of Hon. Abike Dabiri (stated as Director in Thriller Endeavours Ltd) was erroneous and is deeply regretted.”
“The Central Bank of Nigeria has been informed of this error. Hon Dabiri is not indebted to the bank in any capacity.”
The Central Bank had, on April 22, 2015, ordered the banks to publish the debtors’ lists from August 1. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
