The integrity of President Muhammadu Buhari has led to the seeming stability in power generation and has also ensured an increase in its supply, the All Progressives Congress has said.
It also stated that without adequate improvement in power supply, the President may not be able to fulfil most of his campaign promises.
Before the new government came on board, power generation in Nigeria was between 3,000MW and 3,500MW. But in the past two months, electricity generation has continued to stay above 4,500MW.
The spokesperson for the APC, Mr. Lai Mohammed, stated that the stability in power generation was attributable to the integrity that was brought into governance by Buhari.
Speaking at 2015 Electricity Market Summit in Abuja on Thursday, Mohammed, who represented his party at the event, stated that the cases of pipelines vandalism had decreased significantly since the new administration took over from the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said, “I say it anywhere I go that even though we have not added one single megawatt to power, there has been improvement. My colleagues in the PDP will say no; that’s not true. But I maintain that this improvement is as a result of the kind of integrity that President Buhari has brought to leadership.
“Also, there has been a reduction in the cases of gas pipelines vandalism. Furthermore, the TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria), which used to have about 22 systemic power failures often times, now records about six or seven of such cases. So, what we have today is that we have a leadership that is inspiring Nigerians and making them to believe again in their country. We have a leadership that is promising to reward merit.”
Mohammed observed that the country’s power generation was by far too low, when compared to its population. He said it was time to think outside the box with respect to increasing electricity generation and supply.
He said, “Meanwhile, I will like to state here that a nation with a population of over 170 million people cannot make do with a power generation of under 10,000MW. Even if we achieve 10,000MW, it will not help us in our drive for industrialisation. I have been informed that even if all our power generating plants generate (power) today, we don’t have enough capacity to transmit all that is being generated.
“We need to start thinking out of the box. We can’t afford to think conventionally, because in year 2030, our population will be about the third largest in the world and we cannot just rely on 6,000 to 10,000 megawatts. In the transition committee of President Buhari, we invited many professionals to come and address us on the power sector. The kind of time they gave us to build 20,000MW plant should be between five to seven years. But I don’t think this country can afford that luxury.”
He further noted that the APC promised to create millions of jobs annually, but explained that this would not be possible unless there was improvement in power supply.
The APC spokesperson said, “We must look for radical solutions to this problem, because there is no way a population of 170 million can share 6,000MW and you expect us to be among the top 20 economies in the world. There is very little we can achieve out of our pledges, if the power sector remains the way it is today. We did promise that we are going to create three million jobs a year. This promise is possible and do-able, but it will be much easier for us if the power sector also improves.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Lai Muhammad why can't you be truthful even for once. Is this how you talk in your village meeting. Power generation is scientific and not political. If it's only integrity Buhari has invested in power generation then what we are seeing now is Jonathan's handiwork. Give honor to whom it's do & make yourself a gentleman. If it's only integrity Buhari invested & power turns like this then when he invests money it will be heaven on earth. The truth remains with increased water level at the dams
ReplyDeleteBros, as a Scientist, you mean there was no rain over the years to increase the hitherto low water volume? Or are you saying since Buhari came into Power, we have had twice the amount of average rainfall we've been having over the years?
DeleteI attribute this to Buhariphobia(a phenomenon where all stakeholders sit up and perform their tasks creditably, for the fear or sanctions, bearing in mind that "he" belongs to nobody when he starts applying punitive measures).
Recall, were used to stories of billions spent on securing pipelines, yet we had more issues of pipelines vandalism, if you know anybody that was tried and convicted either for been caught vandalising a pipeline or for negligence of duty, bring it to the public domain.
Pls, just as you said, "give honour to whom honour is due".
Atondu Kaan
Sir,
ReplyDeleteSpare us the empty rhetoric and please get to work.
There is so much to be done and we are getting tired of just hearing change, we want to see the change we clamoured for.
Iranse
So there is no change so far? Are you not having improved power now? Are we not talking of honesty and transparency now instead of stealing not corruption. Cant you see the first lady going to Umrah with public plane instead of wasting government resources? Are we not in recovery instead of looting era. Is our refinery not working now even if 60% capacity? Are employments now not based on merit than whom you know? What of our national reputation internationally? Change is already there unless you cannot see. we only expect more when all this things put in place are yeilding results.
Deletecogent and well spelt out.....God bless you.... for me I can see oh! I am not blind....just like we are having rains now, we had rains that flooded dams and even killed people during Jonathan reign of loot we did not get electricity oh! the simple truth my brother is that those Generators importers during Jonathan administration has been conquered.... period!!!
DeleteSo d improved power supply we see now is buhari's handwork...lol....oga pls dnt be deveived, dis is a very common knowledge, wen d dam is filled, energy increases....come to think of it,wat has buhari invested in power supply since he assumed office...smh
DeleteTo stop sabotage in our efforts to get sufficient electricity supply, importation of Generators must be reduced if not stopped completely.
ReplyDeleteI wished administrations before now realised the damages and wastefulness in relying on generators in a big country like ours!
Health Hazzard of burning diesel every corners in Nigeria houses is one of the big problems.
Generating enough electricity will not be a problem if corruption is killed.
Fire outbreaks claiming lives will be history.
Those working in the electricity sectors must make pre paid meters available to stop cheating consumers through unrealistic and criminal bills they manipulate without fear of thinking of harms they take home to their families.
I pray Almighty Allah helps Nigeria and we, the citizens from the enemies of progress.
I am just very surprise, till now, nothing have been done with this administration, only VOW VOW is what we are hearing everyday....They are just leaving with what the past administration had done, yet painting GEJ black everyday.....When i mean nothing,Nothing have been done
ReplyDeleteWe are enjoying improvement in power supply already, so stop complaining! What he's trying to say is that we need more than this to improve the economy and they will increase it to 20000 mgwts within 5-7 years
ReplyDeleteAnd who improved d power supply??
DeleteThe light in portHarcourt, precisely ada George area..mini orlu is still so very bad..we get to see the light 4hrs in a week, it is that bad!...pls d change shudnt be concentrated in a particular region, it shud spread across evenly.Regards.
ReplyDeleteeven if you get constant power supply in PH WIKE would say he is generating it...don't worry within a few months it would go round we are too rich to be suffering
DeleteNa...wah oh... Monkey don work finish na Bamboo dey chop now! Funny life! Integrity my foot!
ReplyDeleteYes we have increased power supply because the vandals sponsored by APC to vandalize the gas pipelines that supply our gas to power electricity projects completed by the GEJ regime has suddenly stopped, hence the results. You APC guys are a bunch of cheats, but you can never cheat nature. In due time, truth shall prevail.
