President Muhammadu Buhari has chosen new heads for the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Budget Office of the Federation.
Pending approval by the Senate, Dr. William Babatunde Fowler will be the Executive Chairman of the FIRS.
Babatunde Fowler was born to the family of Professor (Dr) and (Chief) Mrs. W.V. Fowler both of Lagos State. He studied in the United States of America at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where he obtained his first bachelors’ degree with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a minor in Political Science in 1978. He completed a second bachelors’ degree program at California State University, Los Angeles and also a Master of Business Administration degree program at California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1981.
As the head of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue from 2005 to 2014, Dr. Fowler oversaw the state’s internal revenue increase more than fivefold, from an average N3.4 million per month in 2006 to an average N20.5 million per month in 2013.
In a press release, presidential spokesman Femi Adesina notes that Dr. Fowler will serve as the Acting Executive Chairman until the Senate approves his appointment.
President Buhari also tapped Aliyu Yahaya Gusau to be Director General of the Budget Office. Mr. Gusau’s appointment is effective as of two days ago on Tuesday and will last for four years.
