We will try to make Nigeria accept Gay rights, Same-sex marriage - US

As President Muhammadu Buhari prepares to meet with his United States counterpart, Barack Obama, in the White House next Monday, the US government is expected to make another case asking the Nigerian government to repeal its law against same-sex unions.

Making this known, the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, stated that the US would continue to pressure Nigeria until it legalises same-sex marriage.

US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield

Thomas-Greenfield revealed America’s plans yesterday during a live-web chat with journalists in Washington DC.

US recently legalised gay marriage, a development, which sparked off mixed reactions across the globe.

Thomas-Greenfield, who said the US had adopted the protection of the rights of same-sex people as part of its foreign policies, vowed that Washington would continue to mount and sustain pressure on Nigeria and other countries to reverse their laws against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender (LGBT) community.

She said: “As a government, it is one of the highest priorities and strongest values that discrimination against anyone based on their sexual orientation and gender identity is wrong. We believe human rights should be available to everybody.

“As a policy, we will continue to press the government of Nigeria, as well as other governments which have provided legislation that discriminate against the LGBT community.”

Obama has invited Buhari to the United states in a few days, Will Buhari accept to soft-pedal on gay rights?

Thomas-Greenfield, who did not agree that pressuring Nigeria to reverse the anti-gay law amounted to interference, said Nigeria and Uganda have the hardest legislation on the gay community.

She said: “This is very much a work in progress, but I think you will agree with me that the law in Nigeria really went far in discriminating against this community but also people who associate with them. So, we will continue to press the government, to press the legislature to change these laws and provide human rights for all Nigerian people regardless of their sexual orientation.”

Thomas-Greenfield was optimistic that the US would win the fight to protect the LGBT community.

She continued: “With what is happening in the US, you can determine how far we are willing to go. We strongly believe human rights for all people and we are particularly opposed to legislation that actually targets the gay community for discrimination.

“So we are prepared to push this as a policy, not just in Africa but across the world.”

  2. America must be a joker. Nigerians can never ever agree to this evil ways. We don't need any America assistance. Why America after Africans countries. Why can't they talk to Saudi Arabia people and other Arabs countries about this. Buhari never ever bow down for them. We have our own cultures and not gay culture. Fuck you Obama and the rest.

  6. You guys are yet to know the height of the evil in the government of the US. These people are direct ambassadors of the anti Christ. Obama is the devil himself. I think it's time to start demonstrating concerning PMB,s trip in the first place because Obama has a way of convincing people with his satanic oratory to decamp to the devil,s camp. Also it's time to start bringing this disgusting homosexuals and lesbians down because they are getting emboldened each day and soon their group will start getting sponsorship from the US and other devilish countries. Most ladies these days engage in the disgusting act of lesbianism and nobody seems to take notice while the men are haunted and hunted. Lets simply snatch and smash them now before the become too strong for us.

  9. Homosexuality was an offence both in US nd U.K. but today, it's bn decriminalize. Those people hv experimented on all these nd found that it's not sustainable. What's natural to a person can't be repressed by legislation. That d western world hv realised. I know someday, soon, Nigeria will decriminalize it. That anti gay law was passed out of insincerity nd pretext as most of them who were parties to that law, legislature nd d executive, are either bisexual , lesbians, or homos. Time will tell. Let's watch nd see.

    1. Good point. At least, polygamy has a basis in many major religions of the world. But every major religion forbids homosexuality.

  13. Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon signed an International Treaty that " Sold out" Bakassi Peninsula to the Republic of Cameroon during the Nigeria / Biafra Civil War. Today, Cross River State and indeed my brethren from Bakassi are on the receiving end. President Muhammadu Buhari should be very careful in signing any Treaty with USA Government into order not fall into this same Sex marriage legislation trap.

  14. The taste of the pudding is in the eating. Let us how seriously our Presido takes his religion and his nation. This is an acid test of good governance. Do you listen to the yearnings of external powers or to the voices of those you govern. Beware of American neo-colonialistic tendencies. In Africa.

  21. The Americans have gone nuts. It is a great pity that such a great country has descended so low to allow herself to be completely blinded by Satan to accept same-sex marriage. Do they still profess to believe in God, the Creator of all humans and every living thing, by deliberately going against His commandments? Have they forgotten the destruction of Sodom and Gommorrah for practising same-sex marriage? God hates it with PERFECT HATRED.

I will not be surprised that in the next few years, the Americans will go the full hug by also legalizing marriage with beasts i.e. dogs, donkeys, cows, bulls, cats, horses and even lions if they so desire. It is unfortunate that Barak Obama - an African-American allowed himself to be used to legalize this abominable law. Very, very unfortunate.

Ye Americans, hear ye the word of the living God. God is completely against HOMOSEXUALITY, LESBIANISM AND BESTIALITY - Leviticus 18:22-23; Leviticus 20:13-16. Repent or be prepared to receive the fiery WRATH of God.

    1. Kentucky Country Clerk Decided Not To Issue Same-Sex Marriage Licenses After 'Praying And Fasting'
AP/The Huffington Post UK | By Paul Vale
Posted: 21/07/2015 16:38 BST Updated: 3 minutes ago

An elected official in Kentucky decided not to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples after she prayed and fasted. Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis attended court on Monday after the American Civil Liberties Union sued her over her refusal to issue licenses, despite the recent Supreme Court decision that made gay marriage legal across all 50 states.
Davis told the court she could not issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples because signing the document would signal her approval of a union that violates her religious beliefs. She said she came to this decision after not eating and talking to God. Governor of Kentucky Steve Beshear instructed county clerks to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples immediately following last month's Supreme Court ruling.
The ACLU has asked District Judge David Bunning to order Davis to issue the marriage licenses. Bunning, who did not rule after the Monday hearing, could order Davis to issue licenses, and then fine her or put her in jail if she refuses. But he can not remove her from office as she’s an elected official.
Davis said Monday she is a member of a local apostolic church, part of the Christian faith. She said she believes the Bible is "God's holy word" and that it defines marriage as strictly between one man and one woman.
Kentucky law requires the county clerk to issue marriage licenses, or the local judge executive if the clerk is absent or the office is vacant. The licenses are valid for 39 days until someone — a minister or other qualified official — performs the ceremony and signs the form. The couple then returns the license to the clerk and has it recorded.
The wording on the license says the couple is "hereby authorized" to get married. "If... I authorize that I'm saying I agree with it, and I can't," Davis said Monday in a sometimes-tearful testimony before a packed courtroom. She added: "If I resign, it solves nothing and helps nobody," especially when "there is a solution out there where everyone can be happy and no one is compromised in any way."
Her solution is for Beshear to call a special session of the state legislature to pass a law protecting county clerks, possibly by allowing people to receive marriage licenses from the state online. Beshear has declined to call the legislature back to Frankfort, citing the $60,000 per day cost to taxpayers.
Bunning said the earliest he could rule would be mid-August. But it's unclear how Davis — who has already ignored broader orders from the US Supreme Court and the governor — would react to a judge's order to issue marriage licenses. "I'll deal with that when the time comes," she said.
At least we now know that not all Americans are EVIL Abi?

  35. Same sex marriage is contrary to God's commandment and will not be legalized in Nigeria. Americans may practice it in their country but they should not force it on us because we will not compromise our cultural and moral standards

    ReplyDelete
  36. Nigeria is a independent nation and nobody can force that in Nigeria as you can force gay in Texas and some American States that is why Obama did not go further he respect every right of each nation and their culture even in his homeland Kenya not everybody love gay but they are allowed.
I also found this article on greymile, it's quite similar and interesting...you can see it too.
