We are shocked at the magnitude of corruption cases in Jonathan's administration - APC

The All Progressives Congress has said it was shocked at the magnitude of cases of corruption it has so far unearthed while going through the records of the previous administration.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja, on Thursday.

He was reacting to the announcement by President Muhammadu Buhari that some officials of the immediate past administration were involved in stealing one million barrel of crude oil daily.

Mohammed said, “We are not just shocked but taken aback by what we have found. We have always known that there was monumental corruption under the previous regime but we did not know it was this huge.

“Anybody who calls the questions we are asking a witch-hunt is a person who condones corruption, and again, when we were raising the alarm over this level of corruption they were engaged in, they said we were crying wolf where there was none.

“They said it never happened. They even went as far as manufacturing figures to cover up. We must ask questions so that whoever is coming into government will know that it cannot be business as usual and that he/she must be prepared to answer questions after they leave office.”

On its part, the Peoples Democratic Party said the allegations of impropriety levelled against the officials of the Goodluck Jonathan-led administration must be proved in court.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo, said to the best of his knowledge, the PDP-led administration conducted its affairs transparently, as such, the party was not afraid of any probe.

He said, “Like I told you before, the PDP provided a transparent leadership for this country for the 16 years we were in power.

“It was the PDP that established the anti-corruption agencies we are celebrating today, like the EFCC and the ICPC. All we ask is that any probe of the last administration should not be used as an avenue to villify people who served this country diligently.”

  4. You all idiots are here again. I know you ALL do benefit from the stupid Jonathan administration. Now we have taken 1000 steps backwards. But why don't you wait to let APC finish the probe before you bunch start crying foul...If I don't even believe anything, I believe some past ministers have been milking the nation dry.. For instance, Dasuki didn't deny there were 12 brand new bullet cars found in his house but he is busy shouting I didn't treat Buhari badly in 1985, Shoroniyen? PDP destroyed our country period.

  7. It is clear to any sane man that only one person wrote the first four comments. If this country is left in the hands of your likes we will continue to witness more and more decay. By the way please learn to avoid the use of vulgar languages. They don't help anybody's case.

  9. The elections are over. This is no time for sloganeering . No matter how shocked you are just start working. We are getting fed up of humongous figigures being bandied about. We hope these are not alibi for failure. We all know during the last administration the Ministers were invited by the house over 200 times to answer questions.
We were all informed of expenditures. There were probes ongoing at every turn.
We are surprised to hear one million barrels of oil was being stolen daily during the last administration . This is absolute nonesense and just incendiary remarks setting the stage for jungle justice and dectatorship.
For clarity one million barrels amounts to 75 million barrels daily. Such an amount cannot be laundered or hidden. Not in a world that is increasingly a global village.
    Let's be serious.
If anybody is guilty please prosecute and jail them. I will even support the Chinese option of executing them.
Let's just work and get things in place . If not get out and apologies to Nigerians for raising our hopes.

    1. They have started working. It"s their duty as a ruling government to unravel the secret behind the current financial and economic backwardness Nigeria found herself. Thank God, the secret is that Jonathan administration brought Nigeria to financial and economic standstill, thanks to Jonathan corrupt style of leadership.

  12. Who is APC in the first place. Majority of APC members were the corrupt members of PDP who decamped from PDP to APC. When the slogan CHANGE came up during political campaign, Nigerians did not understand that CHANGE by APC party means changing from one party to another. APC is still pushing balms to a party that is not in power presently. CHANGE!! CHANGE!!!!!! APC now change yourself and stop blaming any body.

  14. Many Nigerian on line commentators do speak good English bet most of time devoid of common sense . Many don't know what it means to let the looters enjoy their loots 1. They can ruin the econmy by making naira useless by successive devaluations 2. With 2 million Naira you can sponsor 2000 area boys to cause damages 3. They will continue to use the looted moneies to put their type of people in power and the list is endless . Why not retrieve the looted funds and save our generation for social minance

  15. I can feel the pause of Nigerians when they hear probe and see jail coming. Buhari take your time, let them complain. Pack them out, accommodate them in prisons so that new ministers will take caution.

  16. Why are there so much castigation against Buhari who has just started about two months ago? I seem to understand that those who are castigating him have been in the camp of PDP that squandered the nations funds? Are you blind to the sufferings of workers who were not paid for up to 9 months? What was the cause if not corruption? I can now see that many of you were happy that workers were suffering in this country? I am not in any party camp as a civil servant but I am aware as an Accountant in the civil service the extent and the rate of corruption in Nigeria especially at the higher levels. Allocations were coming but they were not being used to pay salaries but were diverted to private pockets. State and and Local government staff were suffering, crying and dying yet the PDP members were there sharing the booties at all levels of government. Those who are saying that APC governors were among them have not told us what the PDP as a ruling party and the presidency were doing
to stop corruption. By the way curbing corruption must start from somebody just as Buhari has started it. It is not his fault that the past Administrations did not do anything to stop corruption because all of them were part of it. Those who are castigating Buhari because he wants to probe the past administration are very much afraid. If your hand are clean why are you afraid and making noise? If you see any APC member that has been corrupt why dont you report him to EFCC? Allow Buhari to do what he wants to do. Even if he makes mistakes along the road, he will correct it. It is too early to judge him. As a matter of fact it would take up to one year to correct the anomalies of the past administration. An example of what he did was initially he refused bail out for the workers but later on he changed his mind seeing that workers have suffered too much. Yet the same bad people are castigating him for coming to the rescue of the workers. Please allow Buhari to bring out what he has for Nigeria. A time will come when we will see whether he is doing fine or not. Not now.

  17. APC members are the most corrupt people in the country. Look at Rochas, tinubu, Amaechi and kwakwanso. These guys and many others ran away from PDP when their corruption and bland thievery became too unbearable to the party while people like Rochas has stolen the state blind with his in laws and hangers on . Please LIE Mohammed should please start defeating boko haram, making the dollar equal in exchange with the Naija, making petrol N33 a liter as promised within one month and stop giving excuses. You guys disgust me
