Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, said on Thursday, that his administration had paid outstanding salaries left by the immediate past administration.
Wike, who made this remark while swearing in the new Head of Service of the state, Mr. Rufus Godwins, explained that civil servants in the state had received their salaries up to date.
He pointed out that the time had come for fresh blood to be injected into the State Civil Service, in order to make it more productive with the capacity to contribute effectively to the development of the state.
Explaining that it was time for the state civil servants to key into the mission and vision of his administration, the governor promised that his administration would pursue civil servants welfare in exchange for quality service.
He lamented that most permanent secretaries in the state ministries were not committed to service, adding that the appointment of the new head of service was to ensure that the civil service joins the administration in the implementation of programmes to develop the state.
The governor informed the permanent secretaries that beginning from July, the administration will begin the payment of monthly overheads to ministries, which was stopped by the last administration.
“Many things have gone wrong in the State Civil Service, which need to be corrected. The new head of service now has the job of ensuring that civil servants key into the mission and vision of the administration.
“Many of the permanent secretaries are supposed to have retired based on their records of service. These are some of the issues that need to be addressed. The new head of service has the mandate to inject fresh blood in the system,” Wike stressed.
The governor specifically asked the head of service to improve the condition of the state secretariat, make the lifts and conveniences functional and enhance key facilities in the premises.
Responding, Godwins assured Wike that he would refocus the state civil service to key into the programmes of the new administration.
The new head of service explained that, though, the challenges were enormous, he had the capacity to drive the process. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
