Preferential treatment: Buhari was quoted out of context, says presidency

Presidency yesterday said that President Mohammadu Buhari was quoted out of context in saying that his government would only recognize the zones that voted for him during the election.

Speaking in reaction to statement, Senior special Assistant to the president on media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu said the insinuation was a “social media commentary” that was not tenable.

“That is a social media commentary. Whoever says that is just making a social media commentary which is a discussion not regulated in accordance with journalism ethics. What the president meant to say was that the world of politics is seen as a reward system by which people expect to derive maximum support from giving maximum support and he meant to say that he is a different kind of leader and will govern in the interest of all.

“He repeated his famous quote that I belong to everybody and I belong to no one. He said he will be fair to all irrespective of how they voted and went on to say that the constitution of the country makes it compulsory for every Nigerian government to run all in livid administration.

“Under our constitution, everyone and every part of the country is protected. That is what he meant to say. So, that line was taken out of the context in which the statement was made. Taking together in its contest, president intended to reassure all the parts of this country that none will be neglected”, he said.

Also speaking on whether NNDC board was among the federal boards dissolved recently by the president, Shehu stated that the General Service Officer, GSO, in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF office has clarification on who is involved.

  1. What is the need always correcting a 72 years old president elected based on his popularity? Why all these lying and denial for a govt that preaches transparency? If he says one thing his aides will interpret a different thing. See how honest they can be to interpret a statement we all listened to and which reflected in the various appointments so far.

  3. He said it plain and he has been demonstrating it by his appointments. Marginalization at this early hour. I don't think this man Buhari is much interested in Nigeria's peace and unity. I wish him well.

  4. He he he he he! Is Buhari still in his diapers? Maybe! They have to be interpreting what he says and what he meant to say every time. Nigeria is in serious trouble. After hearing from Bujari, we must wait for Femi Adesina or Garba Shehu before we know what he meant. We told them the man is senile, they said they want him like that. We told them the man is a confirm tribalist and a jihadist, they said we don't know him.

  5. Most all Nigerians major in English Language to understand this simple plain English? Why must APC always be struggling to interpret or twist every statement he made? OK. With due respect, let him then speak in Hausa language .Ci kena!

  6. The APC as a political party has no plans for Nigeria other than to Islamise sureptiousily Nigeria with the help of gaulible Yoruba Muslims & gready southern Xtians just to give it a national outlook. Look at the president's appointments. APC has put Nigeria's unity hanging. How on earth the president considers it justicable to make that decisive statement. Nigerians should get ready for catastrophe unless if the Northern cabal with their Yoruba colaborators agree to fiscal federalism
