Pensioners Demand Settlement Of Arrears From $1.7 Billion Bailout

The federal government required a whooping sum of N128 billion to clear all the backlog of unpaid pensions, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has said.

This is even as the union has demanded the settlement of pension arrears from federal government’s $1.7billion bail out fund.

The union which made this revelation yesterday demanded the payment of pensions arrears in all the states of the federation from the $1.7billion bailout fund from the federal government.

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) stated that N218billion would be needed to clear the pension arrears at once.

General secretary of NUP, Elder Actor Zal, said in a statement released in Abuja yesterday that the federal government should, therefore, release the money to enable PTAD clear all the arrears.

“The federal government should release the sum of N218 billion needed by Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to clear all those backlog of unpaid pension at once,” Elder Zal said.

The union commended the release of the bailout by the federal government.
but appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the state governments to also settle all pensioners owed from the bailout.
