Ex-Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, and his sons, have been transfered from Kano prison to Kuje prison in Abuja.
Mr. Lamido was transferred in a preparations for a bail hearing, expected on Tuesday.
The former governor and his sons are facing corruption charges.
On Wednesday, a federal judge ordered they be detained in Kano prison till September 28 when their bail applications would be heard.
However, a prison official in Kano revealed that he saw the governor and his sons being taken away from the prison at about 10am on Monday.
He said Lamido and his sons could be transported to Abuja by road because there was no sign they were to travel by air.
When journalists visited the Kano prison early Monday, there were several guests waiting to see Mr. Lamido, apparently unaware they had been moved.
It was also learnt that the former governor’s counsel, Effiong Effiong, succeeded in having a vacation judge assigned to hear the case in Abuja.
A source said already some of the former governor’s aides had moved to Abuja in preparations for a possible bail hearing.
A spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, revealed that he did not have the information about the transfer.
However, a prison official in Kuje confirmed to newsmen that the former governor and his sons had been moved into the facility at about 4pm Monday. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
