The Lagos State Government on Thursday, said it would provide free bus ride for residents in its LAGBUS and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses for this year’s Eid-el-fitri.
Mr Yemi Adesoye, Public Relations Officer of LAGBUS, said this in a news release made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
“It is a move aimed at promoting the use of public transportation as well as reducing congestion on Lagos roads during festivities,’’ he said.
The free ride in the LAGBUS and its franchisees would take place on Friday July 17, 2015 on all LAGBUS routes across the metropolis.
Mr Babatunde Disu, Managing Director, LAGBUS Asset Management Ltd. told NAN on telephone that the buses would run within LAGBUS operational hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Similarly, Mr Kolawole Ojelabi, External Relations Specialist, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), said in a statement that the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Bus Franchise Scheme (BFS) would offer free service for the Eid-el-Fitri.
“Free service will be offered to commuters from BRT corridor in Mile 12 to CMS while Cape Trust Investment Ltd., operators of a BFS will offer services along its corridor – Maryland-Ikeja-Iyana-Ipaja-Ikotun-Igando-axis of Alimosho and Ikeja Local Government,” he said.
Mr Dayo Mobereola, Managing Director, LAMATA, enjoined residents to have faith in the government in bringing to reality the vision for a world class transport for Lagos.
Mobereola called on the people to reflect on the spiritual significance of the Ramadan fast and to pray for the peace and progress of the state.
He however urged residents to do things in moderation, observe Lagos State traffic laws, avoid speeding beyond limits and respect the rights of other road users. (NAN) Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Please Mr Ambode, I will humbly advise that you begin to strengthen and tighten up security in Lagos rather than all these gestures. With the current spate of terror attacks, I think the more meaningful gift for the celebration is the assurance of security for the people. I marvel when I listen to our govt reaction to terrorism and we don't get to see enlightenment ads/ sensitization in our media on a day to day basis telling it's citizens how to be vigilant, good observers, what to look out for etc...yet we spent billions of naira just for campaign ads to get us to positions.come on...we can't keep fooling ourselves
